The New York Mets (30-38) defeated the Colorado Rockies (34-37) by a score of 12-2 Monday night in Colorado. Coming off a come-from-behind win Sunday over the Diamondbacks, the Mets came into Coors Field with a newly found energy with their best pitcher on the mound.
Pitching
Jacob deGrom continues to pitch at an elite level as he was able to navigate a tough Rockies lineup in Coors Field with relative ease. He cruised through the first inning retiring the first three batters in order. In the second inning he allowed a lead off double to Carlos Gonzalez. After retiring Trevor Story, Gerardo Parra doubled on a line drive to center cutting the Mets lead to 2-1. Parra advanced to third on a groundout but was left stranded there as Jake struck out Tom Murphy to end the frame.
In the third inning deGrom allowed a one out double to DJ LeMahieu but got Charlie Blackmon to fly out before striking out Nolan Arenado swinging.
In the fourth inning, after a walk to Trevor Story, Wilmer Flores snagged a sharp line drive and tried to tag Story who was called out for running out of the base path trying to evade the tag.
With two outs in the seventh inning and Gerado Parra on first, Ian Desmond singled to right but Jose Bautista booted the ball which allowed Parra to score making the Mets lead 4-2 at the time. DeGrom came out to pitch the eighth inning and set down the Rockies in order and departed the game with a 6-2 lead as they headed to the ninth inning.
DeGrom was masterful this evening as he finished the day with a 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO stat line. Jake threw 109 pitches with 79 of them for strikes. He also has a 1.51 ERA for the season which is the best in the Majors by far.
Paul Sewald pitched a clean ninth inning to seal the ninth inning and Mets victory.

Hitting
Brandon Nimmo led off the game with an inside-the-park home run off Rockies left-handed starter Tyler Anderson. It was his second home run in as many plate appearances and his eleventh for the season. Two batters later, Wilmer Flores hit a fly ball that was fading away from Rockies right-fielder Carlos Gonzalez but CarGo was able to make a diving catch.
Michael Conforto led off the second inning with a double. After stealing third, Conforto was able to score when Jose Bautista grounded out on a dribbler on the right side of the infield to make the score 2-0.
Wilmer Flores hit a 2-2 pitch over the left-center field wall to lead off the fourth inning extending the Mets lead to 3-1. The next batter Michael Conforto hit a slow roller to third but was thrown out with a bare handed scoop and throw by five-time Gold Glover Nolan Arenado.
In the top of the sixth inning the Mets loaded the bases with one out but were unable to cash in as deGrom grounded into a force out to the pitcher who threw home for the out. The next batter Amed Rosario struck out swinging to end the frame.
Brandon Nimmo led off the seventh inning with his second home run of day, this one over the wall, to give the Mets and Jake the 4-1 lead. Both home runs hit tonight by The Cheyenne, WY native came off left-handed pitchers, and the second traveled 449 feet, his longest of the season.
Michael Conforto hit a double to lead off the eighth inning on a sharp line drive to right field. He would later advance on wild pitch by Rockies reliever Jake McGee. With Conforto on third with zero out, Devin Mesoraco hit a homerun over the left field wall to make the score 6-2 in favor of the Mets.
The Mets offense exploded and broke the game open in the ninth inning with six-run frame. Asdrubal Cabrera led off the inning with a single followed by Todd Frazier who did the same. Both runners advanced a base on Wilmer Flores ground out. Michael Conforto, who was 3-for-4 coming into the at-bat, was intentionally walked to load the bases for Mesoraco. Rockies reliever Jeff Hoffman walked both Mesoraco and Bautista to give the Mets an 8-2 lead.
Mesoraco and Bautista would later score on a one-out double by Amed Rosario making the score 10-2. The Mets were not done yet, as with runners on second and third, Brandon Nimmo hit a two-run single making the Mets lead 12-2. Nimmo finished the game going 4-for-6 with two home runs and four RBIs. Nimmo also scored four of the Mets twelve runs. In the past 25 games, Nimmo has been on fire as he is hitting .323 with 10 homeruns.
