Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mets are confident they will be able to deal Matt Harvey as opposed to running out the 10-day clock counting down to when he will be a free agent.

Including the Rangers and Mariners, as we reported earlier, Rosenthal says “four or five” teams are interested. He also reports that many view the San Fransisco Giants as the frontrunner to land the righty starter, but the situation remains “fluid.”

After Matt Harvey was designated for assignment last week, the speculation began regarding a potential trade to alleviate some of the over $4 million owed to him for the rest of the season. Today, two teams have expressed at least some interest.

Per Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the first interested party seems to be the Texas Rangers whose pitching coach is none other than Dan Warthen. An interesting possibility would be Jurickson Profar, something that was discussed by the two teams last December.

The other team interested is the Seattle Mariners. When asked if he had any interest in Harvey, Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto had this to say:

“Tough call. He’s extremely talented, and some of that is going to be relative to the finances, but there’s something in there. He still has plenty of velocity, he still has a good breaking ball; Maybe he needs a change of scenery, we’ll have to see.”

Matt Harvey’s career as a Met is over for sure, but a potential deal is hugely important. Any money saved here can be put towards a big deal at the trade deadline.
