Yoenis Cespedes has been making a statement the last few days. The statement he’s been making: I’m back and better than ever.

After starting off the season terribly that currently has allowed him to lead the National League with 43 strikeouts, Cespedes has went 9-17 in his last five games with three home runs.

Last night, he went 3-4 in a game he was not expected to even appear in until late, as he had been dealing with a jammed left thumb that was expected to sideline him at least three games.

In his first at-bat and second at-bats, he hit singles off Atlanta Braves top prospect Mike Soroka, who was making his MLB debut.

However, his big blast came in the sixth inning, as he hit a home run into the second deck in left field off Soroka to trim the Atlanta Braves lead to 3-1.

In the top of the seventh, he showed off his defensive skills as well. Cespedes threw out Kurt Suzuki at the plate as he tried to score from second on a two-out single from Ryan Flaherty.

After last night’s game, Cespedes raised his average to .252 while also giving himself sole possession of the NL lead in RBI with 27 on his seventh homer of the season.

The Mets will hope he has officially broken out of his early-season funk, as the team has proven ever since acquiring him at the trade deadline in 2015, that the offense is significantly better when he is healthy and producing like an All-Star.
