The New York Mets traveled to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter on Saturday for a Grapefruit League matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals.

After the Mets scored five runs in the top of the fifth to add to their 1-0 lead, the Cardinals scored seven in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 7-6 game. The Mets added a run in the eighth to tie it up at seven, then the Cardinals walked it off in the ninth.

Starting for the Mets was their 24-year-old left-handed prospect, P.J. Conlon. The Cards began the game with Mike Mayers on the mound, with Edward Mujica, Brett Cecil, and Bud Norris all getting work, among others.

Pitching

After a spotless first, P.J. Conlon allowed a Marcell Ozuna double to lead off the second. He then retired Yadier Molina and induced a funky 5-2-6-4 fielder’s choice double play to escape the inning.

Conlon pitched a clean third and then worked around a leadoff hit-by-pitch in the fourth to finish yet another strong Grapefruit League outing (four innings, one hit, two strikeouts), lowering his earned-run average to 1.69 in 10.2 innings this spring.

Adonis Uceta began the fifth but didn’t last long, allowing five earned runs on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Joshua Torres relieved Uceta and gave up three base hits, allowing two inherited runners to score and let up two more earned runs of his own in one-third of an inning.

Andrew Church pitched three scoreless innings, giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one in his first appearance of the spring.

Kyle Regnault pitched the ninth, retiring the first batter he faced in a 7-7 game before allowing a single, a double, and a walk before giving up a walk-off base hit to Cards’ prospect Lane Thomas.

Offense

Todd Frazier went 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles, two RBI (including a run-scoring sacrifice fly) and a run scored, raising his ST batting average to .250 with a .740 OPS.

Adrian Gonzalez hit an RBI double to left-field in the fifth, scoring Michael Conforto from first base.

Asdrubal Cabrera had a single in the second, his eleventh hit this spring, and added another RBI single in the fourth.

Patrick Biondi hit a two-run triple in the Mets’ five-run fifth against the Cards’ Ian McKinney, his second and third RBI of the spring and added a bunt single in the eighth.

Champ Stuart hit an RBI triple in the eighth to tie the game at seven.

Jose Reyes went 0-for-4, lowering his spring average to .174/.501 OPS.

Michael Conforto went 0-for-2 with two walks, a strikeout, and a run scored in his first appearance this spring playing in the field and hitting in an MLB game. Here’s Conforto talking about his day, via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
