New York Mets prospect Kevin Kaczmarski had a pretty quiet regular season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2017 hitting .274/.370/.369 with 18 doubles, five triples, five home runs and 15 stolen bases.
However, the 25-year-old outfielder is starting to open some eyes with his strong play in the Arizona Fall League for the Scottsdale Scorpions. After going 3 for 5 on Thursday night, Kaczmarski is now slashing .396/.439/.509 with three doubles, one home run and eight RBI in the AFL. His .396 average leads the AFL and his 21 hits are second in the league.
Kaczmarski had also been hitting third recently on a team that includes much higher ranked prospects in Estevan Florial, Matt Thaiss, Steven Duggar and Aramis Garcia.
Right-handed reliever Tim Peterson threw two scoreless innings yesterday with a walk and strikeout. He’s allowed only one earned run for Scottsdale in 7.2 innings after posting a 1.86 ERA in the Mets minor leagues in 2017.
Third baseman David Thompson went 1 for 5 with a run scored in the Scorpions 4-2 loss. He’s now just 2 for 13 in his last three games which has dropped his OPS down to .885 in the AFL.
Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline chose his best tools in the AFL and named Luis Guillorme as the best defender in the league. He also mentioned Tomas Nido as honorable mention in that category.
The AFL Fall Stars Game takes place on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET on MLB Newtork with both Guillorme and Nido on the East roster.
