New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson gave the catching tandem of Kevin Plawecki and Travis d’Arnaud a vote of confidence for 2018 on Wednesday afternoon.
D’Arnaud has responded with back-to-back two hit games that includes three extra base hits, all of them to the opposite field.
“When you’re going the other way and you’re seeing that ball and letting that ball get a little bit deeper, you’re seeing it pretty well. Those are good signs that he’s doing what we thought he might. I don’t care what time of year it is to see it, it’s nice to see, ” Collins told reporters on Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, Travis went 2 for 4 with two doubles and drove in the Mets only run in a 9-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He followed that up with two more hits on Wednesday including a two-run homer to right center field.
“Sometimes I overswing and try to do too much, instead of just keeping things simple and taking what they give me,” d’Arnaud said on Wednesday.
Travis could be feeling the heat coming from Plawecki who has hit .314/.385/.486 since being recalled from Triple-A. D’Arnaud is still hitting just .237/.285/.410 on the season.
