
The New York Mets (55-70) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (69-58) 4-2 on Wednesday night at Citi Field.
Pitching:
Chris Flexen (2-2, 6.55 ERA) got the nod for the Mets in this game looking to build off decent outings in his last three starts.
He did exactly that as he went six innings and gave up six hits, four walks, and two runs, while striking out five. It was his longest outing of the season and first career quality start. He also tied his career high in strikeouts with five.
Jerry Blevins began the seventh inning, but left with runners on first and third while only recording one out. Paul Sewald took over and was successfully able to get out of the inning.
Sewald stayed on for the eighth and delivered a 1-2-3 inning.
AJ Ramos came into the game in the ninth looking for his 23rd save of the season and third with the Mets. He converted the save opportunity with a scoreless frame.
Offense:
The Mets were up against Zack Godley (5-6, 3.13 ERA) who started for the Diamondbacks.
After the Diamondbacks scored in the top of the first, Michael Conforto tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single.
Amed Rosario gave the Mets a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a RBI single.
Conforto extended the Mets lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning with his second RBI single of the game.
Dominic Smith belted a home run to right field in the sixth to put the Mets up 4-2.
On Deck:
The Mets conclude this four-game series on Thursday afternoon as Rafael Montero (2-8, 5.47 ERA) will start against Robbie Ray (9-5, 3.11 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 12:10 pm.
