Jon Morosi of MLB Network first broke the news on Twitter and the Diamondbacks confirmed the move shortly after.
Martinez, 30 in August, has had a fine year at the dish, hitting .305/.388/.630 with 16 home runs and 39 RBI in 57 games for Detroit this season.
His advanced metrics are also up in the stratosphere, with a 162 wRC+ and .413 wOBA.
The seven-year veteran is in the final year of a contract he signed with the Tigers prior to the 2016 season.

In return, the Tigers are receiving prospects Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King.
MLB.com ranked Lugo as the organizations No. 4 prospect at the time of his trade while Alcantara came in at No. 15. King was not ranked.
