The New York Mets announced before their game on Wednesday night against the Chicago Cubs that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Rafael Montero from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Montero, 26, has had a rough go of things in the time he’s spent in the majors in 2017. The righty has gone 0-4 with a 8.24 ERA in 13 games so far this season including two starts.

With Josh Smoker having to throw 81 pitches in relief of Zack Wheeler on Tuesday night, the Mets needed some bullpen reinforcements.

There has been no corresponding move announced at this time.
