The Mets have revealed that Yoenis Cespedes was lifted in the fifth inning due to a ‘sore left heel.’ The injury seems to have nothing to do with his previous ailments.

Prior to the sixth inning in tonight’s game against the Cubs, Yoenis Cespedes was lifted from the game for an undisclosed reason. Juan Lagares slotted into center field with Curtis Granderson moving to left. Cespedes was 1-for-3 before being removed.

The broadcast showed Cespedes speaking with Ramirez frequently throughout the game, and for some reason, they decided the sixth inning would be the end of his night.

This doesn’t necessarily mean he is injured, he might have just felt something out of the ordinary and the Mets didn’t want to take any chances. Another likely reason is that at the time of his departure, the Mets were winning 4-0 with deGrom dealing on the hill so the Mets just wanted to give him the rest of the day off.

When a reason is shared by the Mets, we will of course update you.
