The New York Mets extended their winning streak to four games as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Monday night at Citi Field.

Pitching

Jacob deGrom bounced back from a couple of rough starts with a beautiful outing Monday night. deGrom went the distance, allowing one run on five hits while walking four and striking out six. He was helped out by four 4-6-3 double plays on the night.

Joe D. says: This was an incredible masterpiece by deGrom coming off two consecutive brutal outings that had many in the organization concerned. If we can continue to get performances like this from deGrom, the Mets could certainly find themselves back in the thick of a postseason hunt.

Hitting

Asdrubal Cabrera led the way offensively, smacking two solo home runs off of John Lackey.

Jay Bruce picked up three hits on the night, including his team leading eighteenth home run of the season. He now has a nine-game hitting streak.

Yoenis Cespedes singled in his first at-bat, however he left the game in the top of the sixth with what the team called a “sore left heel.”

Travis d’Arnaud reached base three times as well, and drove in a run with a double.

Jose Reyes drove in a run with an RBI single in the eighth.

Up Next

The Mets look to continue their winning ways as they send Zack Wheeler to the mound to face off against Jon Lester and the Cubs at 7:10 PM Tuesday night.
