Robert Gsellman delivered his best start of the 2017 season on Monday in the Mets 4-2 defeat over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The right-hander fired seven strong innings, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits, while walking two and punching out five.

With the outing, Gsellman equaled his career-high working seven innings today. It’s the third time in his career he’s gone seven innings, last on April 19 vs. Philadelphia.

In Gsellman’s last 15 innings, he has allowed 10 hits, four earned runs (2.40 ERA) and notched 10 strikeouts, while winning three of his last four decisions.

“He was attacking the strike zone and his sinker was good today,” catcher Rene Rivera said. “It was moving a lot and he was able to throw it for a strike when he needed a strike and a ball when he needed [a ball].”

With Gsellman putting in seven innings, this is the fourth consecutive game a Mets starter has tossed a quality start.

At the dish, the 23-year-old was right in the thick of things as he helped his own cause. He had a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning. The two RBI are a career-high. Gsellman has three career RBI (all this season).

Gsellman is likely to be relegated to a bullpen role when Steven Matz and Seth Lugo return, but dressed in majestic blue and orange garb topped off with a studded crown on Monday, the righty gave the Mets and their ragtag bullpen some much needed rest.

“We do think he can help us there,” general manager Sandy Alderson said in regards to Gsellman. “With a 5.00 ERA in the bullpen, a lot of people can help us.”

With the performance, Gsellman lowered his season ERA to 5.75 and evened up his record to 3-3.
