Travis d’Arnaud registered his first hits since April 28 on Saturday, when he went 3-for-5 at the dish against the Pirates.
D’Arnaud, 28, drove in his first run of the game in the second inning on a single to central to drive in Curtis Granderson to make it a then 2-0 ballgame.
D’Arnaud then homered in the fourth, his fourth of the year to give the Mets a then 3-2 lead.
The catcher would come up just shy of a triple for the cycle, as he recorded his first hits back from the disabled list after returning on May 24.
While d’Arnaud is slashing at just a .221/.303/.515 clip, Saturday was a positive sign for the catcher, who has appeared in just 25 games in 2017.
Saturday night, d’Arnaud was a bright spot in an other wise disappointing game for the Mets, who blew another lead and lost 5-4 in extra innings.
Rene Rivera, who held down the fort while d’Arnaud sat out with a wrist injury, is also hitting .304 (17-for-56) in the month of May, meaning if d’Arnaud continues to produce, it will leave Mets manager Terry Collins in a difficult position on who to start.
