Michael Conforto has had a complicated start to the 2017 season. Despite hitting .400 and a .538 OBP with two homers and three runs batted in over ten at-bats and two starts, Conforto still has no guarantee of regular playing time.

Mets manager Terry Collins is still insistent on starting veteran center fielder Curtis Granderson over the youngster. However after yesterday’s game in which Conforto started and reached base three times, including a homer, Collins did tell reporters he does plan to get the young lefty a start at some point this weekend with the Mets facing two righties.

Today, Conforto survived the activation of center fielder Juan Lagares from the disabled list with reliever Paul Sewald headed back to Triple-A Las Vegas.

On his role in the majors, Conforto told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, “I think this is where I need to be … I really do believe the best thing for my development is for me to play against the best in the world, to play at this level. But if I’m down there and just tearing it up, maybe some of that benefit goes to waste a little bit. I think this is where I need to be and I’m excited to be here.”
