With the Mets apparently having difficulty in moving Jay Bruce during the Winter Meetings, some have been left to speculate whether the Mets would look to trade Lucas Duda and move one of their outfielders like Bruce or Michael Conforto to first base.
According to Matt Ehalt of the The Record, the Mets are not contemplating such a move. In fact, the Mets are still planning on Duda being the team’s Opening Day first baseman.
Duda will be a free agent after the 2017 season. He is coming off an injury plagued season that limited him to only 47 games with him hitting .229/.302/.412 with seven homers and 23 RBI.
In the two prior seasons Duda was the Mets first baseman and he hit .249/.350/.483 while averaging 28 homers and 82 RBI.
