Holy Toledo, the Mets beat the Braves! Matz was doing well through the first four innings but fell apart in the 5th and allowed 6 runs. At that point, the Mets had a large lead and leaving Matz in was questionable but the end result was the Mets won. Tonight Jacob deGrom makes the start for the Mets as he goes against Julio Teheran.

As part of Major League Baseball’s tribute to the Negro Leagues, the Mets will wear Brooklyn Royal Giants jerseys tonight. The Brooklyn Royal Giants were an independent team and played in the National Association from 1907-1908 and in the Eastern Colored League from 1923-1927. Among its stars were Smokey Joe Williams, “Cannonball” Dick Redding and John Henry “Pop” Lloyd.
