3 Up
1. The Grandy Man Can
It was an agonizingly painful start to the season for Curtis Granderson, but we all knew that was customary for him in the month of April. However he has now seemed to have turned the corner a bit, and he started the series against the Atlanta Braves off with a bang when he launched a grand slam in the second inning of Friday night’s game. Granderson started the season off going 1 for 24 in his first six games, but since then has hit .283 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. It was a big weekend for him in Atlanta, as he finished the series going 6 for 13 with two HR and five RBI.
2. Harvey Notches First Win
It may not have been pretty, but a win is a win, and Matt Harvey was able to get his first one under his belt for the 2016 season. Nobody thought it would take until his fourth outing to do so, but Harvey and the Mets will take it. He managed to go just five innings and allowed seven hits and five strikeouts. He labored a bit as he through a total of 101 pitches in those five innings. The win snapped a personal four-game losing streak for him, going back to his last start in 2015. Sometimes that first win is the most important one, and for that he makes the list.
3. DeGrom Sharp In Return
For Jacob deGrom, it was his first time pitching since the home opener at Citi Field on April 8th and he didn’t miss a beat. He scattered a total of eight hits and one run through 5 2/3 innings, while striking out three batters. 59 of his 82 pitches were for strikes. Terry Collins had him set on a pitch count of 85, or he may have continued. After not having pitched for a little over two weeks, it was good to see deGrom back in action and looking strong and healthy. He may not have been dominant, but the outcome was far more important.

3 Down
1. Too Many Stranded
While their offense continues to look good, they are still leaving way too many runners on base. This past series they went 5 for 28 with RISP, including a 2 for 16 effort on Saturday night. Some may say it doesn’t matter because they are winning, but they have also benefited from playing some teams at the bottom of the pack. Against the more talented teams, the Mets are going to have to cash in when it counts.
2. Not Quite All In The Familia
Tough to find negatives in a rather clean series, and one that resulted in a sweep, but it seems as though Jeurys Familia has struggled to pitch clean innings in the early part of the season. He does have five saves, but has allowed 13 hits and four walks in nine innings of work this year. He struggled a bit in the final game of the series, giving up a run on three hits and making it interesting in the ninth. Some of it was bad luck as none of the balls were hit too hard, but I just think Familia is taking a little longer to heat up this year, but when he does, its lights out.
3. Cespedes Cooled Off By Ailing Leg
It’s nothing serious, but anytime a hot player is cooled off by any type of injury it tends to be frustrating. Yoenis Cespedes came into Friday night’s game batting .291 with 5 HR and 13 RBI, but aggravated his recent leg bruise when he slid into second base on Friday night. Lagares started in center field for him the last two games of the series. After Saturday night’s game, Terry Collins told reporters that “the bruise is pretty big,” and that “he’s limping pretty bad.” While I don’t see this being a long-term issue, you just still hope to see him bounce back and pick up right where he left off.
