logan Verrett

After a much-needed win on Monday, the New York Mets will mix it up again with the Atlanta Braves tonight at Citi Field. Rookie Logan Verrett (1-1, 2.89) will take the mound for the Mets and opposes Braves right-hander Matt Wisler (5-8. 5.63) in a 7:10 PM matchup.

Manager Terry Collins indicated on Monday that both Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey will start in Cincinnati during a four-game series with the Reds that opens Thursday.

The Mets posted their 13th shutout victory last night, which ranks sixth in the majors. It was also the 27th time this year a Mets starter did not allow a run which is tied for the third-most such games in franchise history with the 1988 club. The 1968 Mets had 28 such games and the 1969 Mets hold the club record with 30 games.

The Mets have 12 home runs in their last 10 home games and have hit a franchise-record 82 home runs at Citi Field this year. The previous club mark was 67 in 2012. The 82 home runs at home are the most since the Mets hit 95 in 2008 at Shea.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. David Wright – 3B
  3. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  4. Yoenis Cespedes – CF
  5. Lucas Duda – 1B
  6. Wilmer Flores – SS
  7. Michael Conforto – LF
  8. Kevin Plawecki – C
  9. Logan Verrett – RHP

The Mets beat the Braves yesterday and were able to put the last two games against the Yankees behind them. In the process, they dropped their magic number to 7 and increased their division lead to 6.5 games. Last night Cespedes broke out of his slump going 3-4 with two doubles, Conforto hit a solo homer and the bullpen was great as they rolled 4-0.

Logan Verrett gets the start tonight as the Mets continue to stretch out their rotation. On the Mets this year he is 1-0 over 28.1 innings, 11 games and 2 starts with a 1.91 ERA while striking out 26. In his two starts as a Met he has allowed 2 ER over 13.0 innings with 11 strikeouts. He has faced the Braves once this year and that way back on June 20th where he allowed 2 hits and an earned run over 0.2 innings. Maybin is 0-1 against Logan while Simmons has a hit in one trip.

The Mets get another look at Matt Wisler who is 5-8 over 17 games and 16 starts, 86.1 innings with a 5.63 ERA. Since he allowed 2 ER over 6.0 innings against the Mets two Fridays ago, he allowed 4 ER over 6.0 innings against Toronto. His start against the Mets made his season numbers against the Amazin’s 14.0 innings with 3 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against Wisler:

  • Duda 1-5
  • Granderson 1-6
  • Tejada 2-7, 2B
  • Cespedes 2-3, 2B
  • Conforto 2-3
  • Cuddyer 2-3
  • Murphy 1-3
  • Plawecki 2-2

Let’s Go Mets!
