curtis Granderson

The Rays defeated the Mets tonight by a score of 5-4 at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay. The loss snaps the Mets seven game winning streak.

Offense: The night started off promising as the Mets offense exploded for three runs in the first inning against Nate Karns. Curtis Granderson led off the game with a home run, and Lucas Duda hit a two run double shortly after to extend the Mets lead. It was a huge night for Granderson, who homered again in the second inning. He now has 19 home runs with a .259 average on the season.

However, the lineup wasn’t able to do much damage for the rest of the game. Karns eventually settled down, and the Rays bullpen tossed four scoreless innings in relief.

PitchingNoah Syndergaard struggled tonight as he he allowed five runs and eight hits during four innings pitched. He quickly surrendered the Mets early 3-0 lead after giving up a two-run blast to Grady Sizemore and a two run single to Kevin Kiermaier.

Syndergaard yielded another run in the 4th inning on an infield hit to Evan Longoria, but it really wasn’t his fault. It was a play that the shortstop, Ruben Tejada, should have made.

Sean Gilmartin and Carlos Torres were both solid in relief. They combined to pitch four scoreless innings and allowed only two hits.

On Deck: Bartolo Colon will get the start tomorrow at 1:10 in the final game of the series. He will face Chris Archer, who is having an outstanding season with a 10-8 record and a 2.54 ERA.
