The New York Mets will look to make it two in a row tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Chavez Ravine.

Matt Harvey takes the mound for the Mets and will oppose Dodgers great’ Zack Greinke.

The Mets are 29-34 all-time on July 4 and 3-2 in their last five contests on Independence Day. The last time the Mets played in Los Angeles on July 4 was in 2011, when they beat the Dodgers, 5-2.

Mets Starting Lineup

Happy Independence Day! Today the Mets and the Dodgers change into some different uniforms (and some very interesting hats) and play (or attempt to play) America’s past time. As a side note, I really hate when the Mets wear jerseys or hats with red accents, with the orange in our uniform set, the colors tend to really bleed and blend into each other. Whatever that’s off topic.

Anyway, in addition to it being the 4th, it is also Harvey day, so happy Harvey Day! Matt is 7-5 over 15 games this season and 99.1 innings with a 2.99 ERA. He held the Reds to one unearned run in a 6.0 inning, really wet day at Citi Field last Saturday. In his last three starts he has tossed 19.2 innings allowing only 1 ER and striking out 14 batters. He faced the Dodgers twice in 2013 allowing 7 ER over 12 innings of work. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Rollins 3-14, 2 2B, HR
  • Gonzalez 1-5
  • Ellis 1-4
  • Ethier 1-3
  • Puit 2-3

Greinke gets the nod for the Dodgers because why not, the Mets bats are hot right? He’s 6-2 over 16 starts and 108.1 innings. Also, he has the league leading ERA at a 1.58. He is in the middle of an unreal stretch including his last 20.2 innings over 3 starts where he has allowed no runs, 3 walks and 19 strikeouts. Last year he faced the Mets twice pitching 12.0 innings allowing 13 hits, 7 runs, only 4 earned. The Mets have the following numbers against Zack:

  • Granderson 8-45, 2 2B, 2 3B, HR
  • Cuddyer 10-40, 2B, HR
  • Murphy 3-8
  • Duda 3-7, HR
  • Lagares 1-6, HR
  • Flroes 1-5
  • deGrom 2-3, 2B

Lets Go Mets!
