The New York Mets open a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at Citi Field on Friday. Matt Harvey (5-2, 2.91) will try to put his last start behind him and he will oppose right-hander Dan Haren (4-2, 3.09) for the Marlins at 7:10 PM.
Harvey is one of only two starters in the last 100 years to allow one run or fewer in 23 of his first 45 career games, the other is Dwight Gooden. In Harvey’s last seven home starts, dating to July 21, 2013, he is 5-1 with a 1.63 ERA.
The Mets’ 20-6 mark at home is the best start in team history after 26 games. The .769 home winning percentage is the second-best in the majors, behind St. Louis (.783,18-5).

After a horrible weekend in Pittsburgh where the Mets got swept, they returned the favor to the Phillies and now look to continue their three game win streak against the Marlins. If there was ever a time the Mets needed a sweep, it was this past series against the Phils.
Harvey is 5-2 over 9 games this season with a 2.91 ERA over 58.2 innings. He is coming off his worst start of the season, probably his career, where he allowed 7 ER over 4.0 innings against the Pirates. Terry Collins speculated he was suffering from a “dead arm” or arm fatigue despite hitting 96-98 mph on the gun.
In his two previous starts he combined for 15.0 scoreless innings with 18 strikeouts. In his one start against the Marlins this year he allowed 4 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 7. The Marlins have the following numbers against Harvey:
- Hechavarria 2-10
- Ozuna 4-9, 3B
- Prado 2-9
- Stanton 1-9
- Solano 3-7
- Yelich 1-6
- Gordon 1-3
The Mets bats will get a look at Dan Haren who is 4-2 over 9 starts this season with a 3.09 ERA over 55.1 innings. In his last two starts he has tossed 14.0 innings allowing only 2 ER and striking out 11 batters. This will be his first time against the Mets this season and last year he allowed only 3 hits and 1 ER over 7.0 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers against Haren:
- Granderson 9-41, 2 2B, 3 HR
- Cuddyer 6-34, 2B, HR
- Murphy 4-17, 2B, HR
- Lagares 5-12
- Duda 1-9, 2B
- Flores 0-2
