1. Big Sexy’s Big Bat

On Friday night Bartolo Colon was sharp through the first seven innings, only allowing run on two hits and eventually hitting a wall in the eighth inning. The big story however was Colon’s bat. Colon ended up going 2-3 including hitting a double and scoring two runs. Colon ended up getting the win after going seven innings and allowing four runs and striking out six. He is now tied for the team lead in wins with Noah Syndergaard at 12.

2. Mighty Thor

Noah Syndergaard got plenty of help from his offense on Saturday night, but he didn’t it. Syndergaard was brilliant through seven strong innings of just two hit ball. He allowed just one run and ended up striking out seven batters. Syndergaard too provided some offense with his bat, hitting a double to right center in the third inning. He is now 12-7 on the year with a 2.55 ERA.

3. Blond Bombshells

It is certainly going to be fun watching Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera at the top of the Mets batting order for the remainder of the season (barring any long term injury to Cabrera). They got the party started on Friday night with back-to-back home runs to lead off the game, and they continued to provide offense the remainder of the series. In total they combined for a total of 10 hits and six RBI.

1. Grandy Continues to Struggle

Curtis Granderson got the night off on Friday night, but was unable to collect any hits in the final two games of the series. He did have a sac fly on Sunday afternoon, but he now has just two hits in his last 20 at bats. Granderson has never been one to hit for average, but at .218, this would be the worst year of his career.

2. Offense Stalls in Finale

The offense tallied 21 runs in the first two games for the series, and it was sight for sore eyes for Mets fans. The same could not be said for the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. With both Neil Walker and Yoenis Cespedes out of the lineup, the Mets hoped they could finish the job and sweep the Phillies out of Citi Field. Instead, the Mets scored just one run on seven hits. Their only real threat came in the first inning.

3. Ruggiano and Cabrera Suffer Injuries

Both Justin Ruggiano and Asdrubal Cabrera exited games this weekend. On Friday night, it was Ruggiano who suffered shoulder discomfort which made him leave the game. On Saturday the Mets placed him on the 15-day DL. On Sunday, Asdrubal Cabrera collided with Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph. He then exited with a sore knee. The Mets cannot afford anymore injuries if they want to make a serious run at the playoffs.
