1. Matz Keeps Winning

In Friday night’s opener, Steven Matz continued his trend of winning by tossing seven strong innings of three-hit ball while allowing just a two-run homer in the first inning off the bat of Chris Carter. It was Matz’s first start after being skipped due to soreness in his elbow, and he didn’t miss a beat. Two of the three hits Matz gave up were in the first inning and at one point he retired 15 straight batters. His numbers keep getting better and better since that dreadful first start of the season. Since then he is 6-0 with a 1.35 ERA, six walk and 42 strikeouts in 40 innings.

2. Captain Clutch

It’s been a struggle at times this season for David Wright, but he certainly was the hero in Saturday night’s victory which came in walk-off fashion. Wright came to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning with the bases loaded and one out. The count was 3-0 but instead of taking a pitch, David decided to take matters into his own hands and drive a base hit into right center that gave the Mets their first walk-off win of the season. It was David’s 9th walk-off hit in his career, putting him in first place all-time in Mets history. It was his first one since 2012, and I don’t think it could have come at a better time for him.

3. He’s Back!

Michael Conforto struggled through first week of May, going just 2 for 24 in the first seven games of this month. However, he is starting to hit his stride again and was crucial this series against the Brewers. Conforto went on to go 4 for 11 this series with two huge home runs while also driving in three runs. His two-run home run in the bottom of the 6th innings of Fridays night’s gave the Mets the lead and proved to be the difference in a 3-2 victory. His homerun in the first inning of yesterday’s game was a no doubter, and it looks like his confidence level is continuing to grow.

1. Where’s The deGrominator

Nitpicking here, but Jacob deGrom didn’t have his best stuff, and is now winless in his last four starts. He did strikeout a season high seven batters, but he labored through five innings, having to throw a total of 100 pitches just to get through. Since he last won on April 30th, Jacob is now 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA.

2. Feast or Famine

After Walker was quick out of the gates in the month of April, he has certainly cooled down in the month of May. Since the 1st of May, Walker is hitting just .190 with a home run and an RBI. Walker had a total of nine home runs throughout the entire month of April. In the series against the Brewers, Walker went 2 for 11 with five strikeouts while also stranding seven Mets on base throughout the series.

3. Back Attack

While the Mets may be getting Wilmer Flores back later this week, they may soon be losing another infielder in Lucas Duda with his bad back. Duda could be placed on the DL after being examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery this morning. After the examination, Terry Collins fears that Duda landing on the DL is a real possibility, and that he could miss a good amount of time. Until Friday, when Flores is eligible to return, the Mets roster looks be very thin. They may look to call up utility infielder Ty Kelly from Triple-A Las Vegas.
