I decided to take a look at our 2004 season this morning. That was the last time the Mets finished below .500 and pretty much spelled doom for manager Art Howe and Interim General Manager Dan Duquette.
That season the Mets finished in fourth place with a record of 71-91. Currently, the Mets have a 55-63 record with 44 games left to play. The Mets are currently 6-10 in August and if they continue at this current pace, they will will finish with the identical 71-91 record that led to a total regime change.
One other trivial bit of information I discovered…
In 2004, the Mets had seven players with ten or more homeruns. Unless David Wright can comeback in time to hit two more homeruns, the Mets may only finish the season with one player with ten or more homers; Gary Sheffield who has exactly ten.
It looks llike we’ve come full circle.
