The Mets find themselves in a real tricky spot heading into 2014. Whether we like it or not, what we thought was a sure thing – is now far from it. The Mets have no answer at First Base anymore. It’s a rare moment when a franchise goes from thinking they have a cornerstone franchise type player to build around, to having nothing good to hope for. Look, I really have no problem with Josh […]
Attempting to comeback from an intercostal strain, Lucas Duda played another nine innings for the GCL Mets yesterday as he continues to work his way back to the big league team. Duda went 0-for-4, making him hitless in 16 plate appearances with one walk. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets left fielder is on the move: Lucas Duda’s rehab assignment moving from Gulf Coast League to Class A St. Lucie tonight. #mets […]
If you missed it on Monday, top prospect Travis d’Arnaud was cleared to begin game action again as he works his way back from a metatarsal fracture in his left foot. He did indeed take the field, alongside Lucas Duda, with the GCL team today and started at catcher, which is great news. Alderson himself said that d’Arnaud will “spend a minimal amount of time there and move on.” In any case, the GCL Mets […]
Yesterday, during the game, I tweeted the following after Marlon Byrd launched his 17th home run of the season: Marlon Byrd > Michael Bourn X 2 Marlon Byrd > Justin Upton + BJ Upton Marlon Byrd > Scott Hairston X 10 Marlon Byrd just freaking rocks! — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) July 21, 2013 Anybody disagree with me? This afternoon, Marc Carig of Newsday ties it all up rather succinctly: As the trade deadline approaches, the Mets have […]
Here are a couple of Mets injury updates… There is still no timetable for left fielder Lucas Duda (intercostal strain) returning to the big-league team. Last week, Terry Collins said that he was progressing much slower than the team initially anticipated and that he could be out until late July. That would seem like an optimistic projection now and there’s a chance he won’t return until August. Compounding the issue will be where Duda plays […]
With the New York Mets (41-50) about to embark on the second half of the the 2013 season, I hit up two dozen of our MMO writers for their overall grades by position for our Mid-Season Report Cards. For added measure we also included Terry Collins, Sandy Alderson and Mr. Met who was the only one to score an A+. So without further ado, here’s our 2013 Mid-Season Mets Report Cards. Terry Collins C- TC […]
Sandy Alderson is happy that tings have gotten better and credits Eric Young Jr. for part of the turnaround. He had his eye on him for a while and felt fortunate when he was placed on waivers and that he happened to have someone on waivers too, so he called the Rockies and it clicked. Alderson spoke to Mike Francesa yesterday and they had a substantial discussion on a variety of topics. I broke it […]
Terry Collins had some high praise for Eric Young Jr. yesterday, in a conversation with the New York Post. “The energy level has been raised since we got E.Y. and called up some guys from the minor leagues,” Collins said. “Andres Torres did a nice job last year when he wasn’t hurt, but certainly this year Young has made a big difference in our lineup.” And even right fielder Marlon Byrd is happy to have Young […]
Last night, just before the game, Mark Simon tweeted that in the last 30 days, the Mets led MLB with 90 Good Fielding Plays. Not surprising to see David Wright and Omar Quintanilla leading the pack here… The Mets had a rough start to the season defensively. The usually reliable Ike Davis was taking his slump to the field with him, Ruben Tejada was more erratic then ever, and Collin Cowgill and Lucas Duda didn’t […]
