Jason Bay: The Human Windmill

For many years, environmentalists have been looking for energy sources that do not consume fuel or contribute to the excessive amounts of pollution in the air.  One of the energy sources that satisfy those criteria is wind.  And one of the best wind generators in recent times is right here in New York, wearing #44 for the Mets. That’s right, Mets fans.  Jason Bay’s daily strikeouts might be bad for the Mets, but they’re quite [...]

Santana Smooth, Shuts Out Reds 3-0

johan-santana

Johan Santana pitched a complete game shutout, and hit his first MLB home run, and the return of Reyes attributed to the 3-0 win against the Reds. Game Notes Johan Santana had something that Mets fans have not seen in a while – life to his fastball, routinely clocking in at 91 MPH and occasionally hitting 92 MPH. Johan parlayed that increase in velocity that may be a sign his arm is finally approaching 100%, [...]

I Hate To Bring This Up, But…..

This is one of those posts that may incite a riot, but I’ll knock wood, and cross my fingers and toes when I say what I have to say…..that the Mets have had no serious injuries yet this season to key players.  We won’t count Carlos Beltran, who had surgery back in January, or Jose Reyes, who began the year on the DL but joined the team shortly after.  And we certainly won’t count underachievers [...]

Jose Reyes Is The Leader Of The Pack

Look in the dugout during a Mets game.  If you see Jose Reyes smiling, laughing and dancing, you know the Mets are winning and contending.  If you see him anyway else, they are probably losing.  We saw it happen in 2006.  Reyes led the Mets with 194 hits, batting .300.  He hit 37 doubles, 19 triples and 16 home runs.  Oh, and least I forget he stole 64 bases.  The end result was 97 wins [...]

Bay Has A Charley Horse To Go With His 4 Homers

Nobody was more excited about signing Jason Bay than I was. I strongly defended him against some of the harsh criticism that was levied against his $66 million dollar deal with the Mets. I couldn’t wait for the season to get underway so that his powerful bat and excellent track record would silence his critics for once and for all. I’m still waiting. Jason Bay came out of last night’s game with what is being [...]

Wright and Co. Run Wild As Mets Edge Indians 7-6

johan santana

After his 2nd straight outing allowing 4 runs, the Mets offense picked up Johan Santana and won their 4th straight on the road from the Indians, 7-6. Game Recap Johan Santana went out today, and although not dominant, he controlled his damage to primarily the 2nd inning. Johan allowed 4 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and only 1 strikeout in 7 innings. Although he was hittable and obviously pitching to contact, Johan’s fastball [...]

Dickey Solid, Carter Homers, Mets Top O’s 5-1

R.A. Dickey and his knuckleball were highly effective today, and Chris Carter hit his first home run in the MLB as the Mets beat the Orioles 5-1. Game Notes R.A. Dickey was as effective today as he was wild and that was what made his knuckle ball as good as it has been since his call-up. Dickey went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits with 1 walk. Dickey had the Orioles off [...]

Dickey Pitches Well, Mets Win 4-3

R.A. Dickey came out and pitched a solid game, and the Mets took the first game in this home stand from the Marlins 4-3 Game Notes R.A. Dickey went out today, and threw the most knuckle balls in one game that he has thrown in any game this season, going 6 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Dickey was just laying knuckler after knuckler out there and begging [...]
