Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports writes that all three Dodger outfielders – Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Carl Crawford – are available, but a rival GM told him that none were desirable. For comparison’s sake, the three Dodgers outfielders on the trade market combined for a 5.4 WAR (Crawford 2.9, Ethier 2.9, Kemp -0.4) while earning a combined $53.5 million. Kemp, who appeared in only 73 games, recently underwent surgery on his left ankle. His value […]
Second baseman Mark Ellis and left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano became free agents Thursday as the Dodgers declined to exercise their options for next season. The steady-fielding Ellis became expendable when the Dodgers signed Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero to a four-year, $28-million contract. Guerrero is expected to replace Ellis at second base. Ellis, 36 and a Gold Glove finalist, batted .270/.323/.343 last season with six home runs and 48 RBIs. His option was worth $5.75 million and he earned $5.25 in 2013. Capuano, […]
Wednesday night marked the beginning of the World Series and the two teams which have been praised all postseason long for having outstanding systems and team building began to battle one another for the championship. While the manner in which these League Champs were built is certainly much more complicated than the way the mass media is letting on, here are the basic structures of Boston and St. Louis in a nutshell. Boston added multiple […]
A few weeks ago I did something all Mets fans do nowadays: I sat down to watch other teams play in the post-season. I had my Mets cap on, a can of Coke, some pretzels. And within 5 minutes I heard news that surprised me. The Indians were returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 (as if that was a long time). The Indians? Really??? Cleveland, ‘The Mistake by the Lake,’ was […]
Last week, I profiled high school pitcher Brady Aiken. We’ll keep it on the high school side of things this week but shift it to a position player (probably). This week we’ll go in-depth on shortstop Nick Gordon — son of former closer Tom and brother of Dodgers shortstop Dee. He’s ranked in the 10-20 range by most experts, placing him right in the Mets cross-hairs. Nick Gordon, Olympia H.S (FL) Position: SS/RHP Height: 6’2 Weight: […]
Some people live for the big game. Joe Montana saved his best efforts for the many NFC Championship Games and Super Bowls he won. Michael Jordan was excellent at sinking clutch shots and the spirits of opposing teams in his six NBA Finals victories. (I’m a Utah Jazz fan. I should know.) And then there’s one Carlos Ivan Beltran. Carlos Beltran has never been a player who has sought the spotlight. But come October, the […]
During our chat session last night, one of our participants (William Li) asked us about three buy-low candidates for the Mets: Josh Reddick, Dee Gordon, and Didi Gregorius. Christina and I were on opposite ends of the spectrum, as she ranked her level of interest in the players as Reddick > Gregorius > Gordon. It was the opposite for me, however, because I was always a big fan of Dee Gordon. The window of opportunity […]
Terry Collins told reporters in San Diego, that Wilmer Flores has continued to show improvement on his injured ankle and that he performed some base-running drills before Friday’s game. After the game, Collins told reporters Flores did not suffer any setbacks and the 22-year-old should be able to play in tonight’s game. With the exception of a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday against the Dodgers, Flores has been out since Monday when he twisted his right ankle running the […]
