Mets Minors: Taijeron Is Definitely Hot, Cohoon Not So Much…
Who’s Hot Cesar Puello, OF (BIN): If you haven’t heard by now, Puello enjoyed perhaps the best week of his MiLB career last week when he crushed six home runs in just 25 at-bats. He posted a .600 average, going 15-for-25, with three doubles, six home runs, and 15 RBIs. He also stole three bases. Puello’s recent hot hitting has catapulted him to the front of our outfield prospect corps — with some fans even [...]

Mets Minors: Montero Shines Again, Vaughn To DL With Elbow Strain
Rafael Montero was absolutely amazing today as he continued his stretch of dominance over the entire Eastern League. Montero breezed through his start against the Altoona Curve with seven more shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk over that span. He struck out six and dazzled anyone watching as he spun a gem. Over his last three starts in AA, Montero has pitched a combined 20.o innings, allowed just eleven hits and four [...]

Mets Minors: Bowman and Montero Top Our Hot List
Who’s Hot (5/19-5/26) Matthew Bowman, RHP (STL): Bowman had an excellent week, posting a 2.57 ERA in two starts. He tossed 14 innings and allowed four runs on 14 hits. Most impressive, however, were his 17/2 strikeout to walk ratio. Bowman has quietly had a very good season and was one of the first players to earn a promotion this season after posting a 2.64 ERA in 30.2 innings in Savannah. So far in St. [...]

Cowgill and Nieuwenhuis Continue to Struggle in Minors
It’s been mentioned a lot this season, but the big league outfield of the New York Mets has a lot to be desired. Heading into spring training last February, there was hope one of the unproven outfielders brought into camp would step up to the challenge. Collin Cowgill did just that; he hit .303/.378/.591 in 66 spring training at-bats, and earned the honor of being the starting center fielder on opening day. Kirk Nieuwenhuis struggled to an awful [...]

Mets Minors Report 5/23: Wheeler Rusty in Return, Montero Heads Back to Binghamton
Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas defeated Iowa 9-4. Binghamton beat New Britain, 8-3. St. Lucie dropped Dunedin, 5-3. Savannah lost to Charleston, 4-2. Prospect Pipeline Zack Wheeler was back in action after missing a start due to inflammation of the AC Joint in his throwing shoulder. Wheeler looked a tad rusty from the get-go. He didn’t have great command over his pitches, and in fact, he missed the strike zone wildly a couple of times. [...]

Power Prospect Cory Vaughn Is On A Mission
Despite a major league pedigree and respect for his tools (Baseball America Top 15 organizational prospect three years running), Binghamton Mets outfielder Cory Vaughn had yet to put all his tools together. His power and speed didn’t show up until 2012, but he hit .243. In St. Lucie in 2011, Vaughn hit .286 before his promotion, but only four home runs. After the promotion, he more than doubled his home run total, but the batting average dipped to .219. [...]
