Yesterday, former Met right fielder Jeff Francouer released statements saying that the Mets should consider lowering the left field fence and bringing in the deep gaps of Citi Field. Of course, earlier in the offseason, Francouer, who is currently mashing with the Kansas City Royals, called Citi Field a “damn joke.” Internally, the Mets have discussed the idea of making the dimensions more hitter friendly in the ballpark. However, are the dimensions at Citi Field […]
I think it’s safe to say that Jason Bay’s first year as a New York Met was a bust after be signed to a 4 year deal worth 66 million dollars. Coming into the 2010 season Jason Bay was supposed to provide much needed power for the Mets. Unfortunately things did not go as planned as Bay’s power was nowhere to be found last season. Besides his offensive numbers taking a huge nosedive last year […]
The Mets were a mediocre team in 2010, finishing the season with a 79-83 record. That mark was the 20th best in baseball (or the 11th worst, if you’re standing on your head while looking at the standings). That was a nine-game improvement over the dismal 2009 season, when injuries turned the Mets into Johan Santana and the Four Rainouts, but the improvement in the win column was still not good enough to put the […]
Last week I wrote about how the Mets need to find ways to entice the fans to come out to the ballpark in 2011. Last week I brought up the idea of retiring 17 in honor Keith Hernandez. I thought it would give Mets fans something to look forward to during the long season that 2011 will be and I thought that when looking back on 2011 it would be a fun thing to remember. […]
It has been well-documented that attendance at Citi Field suffered a significant drop-off from its inaugural season in 2009 to the just-completed 2010 season. Last year, a total of 3,168,571 tickets were sold to Mets home games. That number dropped to 2,559,738 in 2010. The significant drop-off in home attendance can be attributed to numerous things, such as the luster of the new ballpark wearing off and the team’s second consecutive losing season. […]
The Mets make 2 important changes by firing Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel. Not much has happened since. As the Mets take their sweet time looking for a general manager there are still a lot more changes that need to be made. 1) The Ballpark: Citi Field is just too big! I know we’ve been saying that for the last 2 seasons but the Wilpons refuse to bring in the fences. All you look at […]
Years ago, Julio Lugo hit his wife in his own home, and was promptly released by the Houston Astros. At the time, he was a major prospect with MLB playing time and a promising future. Fast forward to the 2010 Mets and you have an established closer publicly (essentially) assaulting a man nearly twice his age, stirring up rumors and hidden claims of domestic violence to his girlfriend, and to boot tearing muscles in his […]
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, gives us the final numbers on how the Mets fared in attendance in only the second season of their new park, Citi Field. The Mets announced a final-game attendance of 30,849. That makes the season total: 2,559,738. Because there were two single-admission doubleheaders and technically 79 home dates, the average attendance was 32,402. Despite 92 losses in 2009, their inaugural season at Citi Field, the Mets announced a total […]
I have been a Mets mini-plan holder since 2002. When the Mets moved into Citi Field last year, I decided to purchase a second mini-plan. I will not be renewing my seats next year because my better half has a full season ticket package and we plan on splitting those tickets in 2011. When I first became a mini-plan holder, I was thrilled to have tickets to so many games in the same seats. After […]
