Many Mets fans on this site, spent a great deal of time debating whether outfielder Angel Pagan was capable of playing leftfield everyday or if he was nothing more than a good fourth outfielder. We had posts that wanted him as the leftfielder so that we could go after a starting pitcher over the winter rather than targeting Jason Bay or Matt Holliday. I myself, saw Pagan as a great fourth outfielder and wanted the […]
It’s that time again – I happen to love the Subway Series, but I know there are others who don’t. Anyway we’ve reached the weekend and it’s the second act of the Subway Series for 2010. The Mets go to the Big City for the games at the new Yankee Stadium on Friday night, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The Mets are on a seven game winning streak, and the Yankees have just lost two […]
Most of you who read my words on here each week know that I have a healthy dose of skepticism and cynicism when it comes to these Mets. But while I’m not about to start sending “Ya gotta believe!” messages like one of my buddies does even when the Mets lose a bunch of games in a row, it’s hard not to believe there is something magical going on here. First of all, while we […]
After an almost full-season furlough, Mets fans eagerly anticipated Jose Reyes’ return to the Mets lineup on Saturday, April 10, of this year. It sounded and seemed as though the Mets themselves needed that shock of adrenaline that only Reyes could provide. The infectious style of play by the “catalyst,” as he has been called in the past, was truly missed. According to most Mets experts in and out of Metsopotamia, Reyes was the one […]
As you all are well aware the All-Star ballots are a joke. We all know it is a popularity contest and more times then not, a more popular player will be chosen over a more deserving player. In addition to being a mockery of the League’s best talent, it also reflects 1900 technology resorting to a preset roster established at the beginning of the season, typically resulting in players who have yet to have stepped […]
At the end of spring training, Carlos Beltran said he wanted to begin running exercises in Port St. Lucie on April 10, and rejoin the Mets by at least early May, but after three weeks of Beltran’s self-imposed deadline he is still not close to returning. According to the New York Daily News Beltran was fitted for a custom knee brace last week in which he hoped would help accelerate his rehabilitation. That occurred during an April 20 visit to the […]
Update 4/21 1:30 PM According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Dr. Steadman, who performed the surgery on Carlos Beltran in January, told Carlos Beltran he should not run until all ‘hot spots,’ or bone bruises, are healed in his knee. However, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus is accusing the Mets of another coverup and writes, Hearing that Beltran’s exam was more negative than is being let on. “No progress, none at all.” Curious if Boras will comment. […]
With Opening Day finally come (nice win!) and gone, I think it’s high time we put away our collective pessimism, our unified grumpiness as jilted Mets fans, and just have a little fun. Opening Day happens only once a year, right? But as we pop open those adult beverages and boil the mystery meat wonders of pure hot dog goodness , I will allow each and every one of you wonderful Mets fans a chance to jump […]
The New York Mets are really hoping to surprise some people this season after the dismal, injury-riddled 2009, but a portion of that expectation is resting on the rehab from surgery on the right knee of Carlos Beltran. According to the New York Daily News, Beltran is likely going to be back in the lineup before early May. “Every day I’m improving,” Beltran told the paper. “I don’t feel the same way I did last year. At the […]
