Zippidy Duda, Zippidy Aye. My Oh My, What A Wonderful Day! Mets Win 6-2

Mets sweep the Pirates in four games with a 6-2 win. Mike Pelfrey pitched seven great innings of two run baseball. Bullpen pitched well. Offense was lead by Angel Pagan and Lucas Duda who each had two RBIs on the night. Game Summary Mike Pelfrey has sealed his spot as next season’s number two starter (maybe even the ace with Johan out). Another great start by him with seven strong innings of only allowing two [...]

Mets Offense Hangs On To Win Third Straight 8-7

Jenrry Mejia didnt make it out of the third due to injury, but the Mets offense came through big and won their third straight. Game Notes Jenrry Mejia was removed in the third inning and diagnosed with a pulled muscle behind his shoulder. After throwing the pitch, he appeared to clutch his back. Hopefully, this has nothing to do with the strain he sufferred when he returned to the minor leagues. Raul Valdes relieved him [...]

Dickey Sticks It To Pirates, Mets Win 9-1

R.A. Dickey was spectacular tonight and the Mets offense went ballistic in the beginning of the game to secure at least a series tie in beating the Pirates 9-1 on Tuesday. Game Notes R.A. Dickey was great today, going for the complete game win, his only run allowed on an RBI groundout in the ninth inning. R.A. allowed five hits and struck out four and walked three in his complete game victory, and even threw [...]

Pagan To Be Honored Friday At Citi Field

Outfielder Angel Pagan will be the Mets nominee for the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award. The award is presented annually to the player who demonstrates the values that Clemente displayed in his commitment to the community. Last season, Derek Jeter of the Yankees won the award; Johan Santana was the Mets’ nominee. “When you see Roberto Clemente, you don’t only see the baseball player,” Pagan said. “You see the example out of the lines, the great example giving back [...]

Another Amazin’ Mess

In Doug’s Dugout today we discuss: The Status Quo, Changes, and other mindless random thoughts.   The best part of going on vacation is returning to the comforting surroundings of home.  At least, that’s what I tell my kids.  If you don’t like sleeping in your own bed then buy a new mattress.  Came back from two weeks in Maine (a plug for Acadia National Park) and was sad to learn the Mets are in the [...]

Six Reasons 2010 IS A Great Season

Despite the Mets 63-62 record, numerous team problems, mismanagement and an overall inability to win on the road, 2010 has been a great season for the Mets from a different point of view. I’ll avoid the sappy introduction filled with highlights and recaps of moments when they succeeded and just get into the observations: 1. The Mets apparently have a farm system…with skilled players This may come as a shock to people, but this year [...]

Don’t Call It A Come Back! Mets Win 6-5

After a shaky end to a solid R.A. Dickey outing, the Mets showed some fight, coming from behind late to defeat the Marlins 6-5. Game Notes R.A. Dickey had a solid outing today, and everything was going smoothly until the seventh inning. In that inning, R.A. allowed the first two hitters he faced to reach, and after a ground-out fielders choice and a pop-out, he allowed a three-run home run to Gaby Sanchez. Dickey’s final [...]

What If Carlos Beltran Never Got Hurt?

I read a solid article entitled “What If Billy Wagner Never Got Hurt?” by Brian Joura of Mets 360. Brian not only contemplates what could have been in the second half of the 2008 season, but also what might have transpired if the Mets signed an outfielder instead of K-Rod later that offseason.  We have seen how good Wagner has been this season.  If Wagner had not been injured in 2008, the Mets probably have [...]

Game Called Due To Rain, Mets Win 5-1 Over Bucs

The Mets were able to keep the game short as they win 5-1 against the Pirates, as the game was called due to rain in the sixth inning. Niese pitched well, Wright had a long homerun, and the table setters were running mad! The Mets wore NY Cubans uniforms today when they should have wore some ponchos. The rain kept coming down hard and after a long rain delay, the umpires and grounds crew finally [...]
