Shades of the 2009 Mets are already apparent here this season. Though that team was more talented on paper, it was ravaged by the injury bug which gave Jerry Manuel very little to work with on a day-to-day basis. Well, it seems that injuries already have played a role this season. Last year’s breakout player, Angel Pagan, is on the disabled list, though he will hopefully return shortly. The Mets were forced to put their [...]
At Aerys Sports, there is a fine conglomerate of baseball bloggers, headed up and written by women. Their resident Mets blogger, Kelly Lake who is the author of “The Curious Case of Sidd Finch,” raised an interesting question about the Mets a few days ago. She asked: When will the players be held accountable? It’s an incredibly fair question, and one I wanted to address myself. Lake’s raised a point about the blame game. Media [...]
Game Summary Niese started off well but fell off the wagon near the fifth and sixth innings. Bullpen was great with three innings of relief. Belran, Pagan, and Murphy led the offense. Despite some positives, the Mets lose 5-4 to the Rockies. Game Notes Jon Niese started out with a great outing until he hit the fifth and sixth innings. He just couldn’t seem to shake Tulo today as he got three hits off Niese. [...]
The Mets bats came alive, R.A. Dickey pitched a solid six innings and the Mets won there first series of the season, on the road. The Mets didn’t win their first road series until August last season Game Notes R.A. Dickey pitched a solid six innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits, walking three and striking out seven. Dickey’s knuckleball was dancing today, and his rubber-armed nature has shown, throwing 108 total pitchers, 69 [...]
Today, the New York Mets announced that three-time Gold Glove center fielder, Carlos Beltran, will be shifting to right field this season. Beltran missed the entire first half of last season, which allowed current Mets’ center fielder Angel Pagan to show his skills at the position. Beltran is 33 years old and entering the final year of his contract. Though it’s unlikely he will be a New York Met beyond this season (if he even [...]
Terry Collins on Friday told reporters that it’s up to Carlos Beltran whether or not he will play center field this year for the Mets. Collins said to reporters that if Beltran decides to stay in center then Beltran is going to have to earn his spot. Beltran who has yet to arrive to camp has a decision to make and hopefully it will be the right one for himself and the Mets. It’s no [...]
Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York, had some quotes from newly signed Angel Pagan regarding the upcoming situation of whether he should play in right or centerfield. “I talked to manager Terry Collins and he said he wanted to sit down with me and Carlos and decide [on who starts in center and who starts in right] before spring training is over and see what is gonna happen,” Pagan said. “But whatever does happen is for [...]
Angel Pagan might have been heaven sent over the past two seasons, but now he seems to have his head up in the clouds. According to today’s Daily News, Anthony McCarron reports that the outfielder still believes the Mets can compete with the Phillies for the NL East division title, despite the fact that the Mets have done very little to upgrade the team during the offseason, while the Phillies now have the Four Horsemen [...]
Everyone knows I don’t have much confidence in the 2011 Mets and I’m already looking forward to the 2012 season. I honestly believe this is just a lost season, where .500 would be acceptable, but “what if” the Mets can compete in 2011? Marvel Comics does a series of comics where they explore the road not traveled by their characters. Last week I looked at the starting pitchers and asked what if they perform? This [...]
So the Mets just signed Chris Capuano and Taylor Bucholz to add some more depth to the pitching rotation. Both of these are solid signings and may pay off in big ways. Capuano is only a few years removed from an 18-win season, and Bucholz has shown he can be a valuable seventh or even eighth inning reliever. For the most part, barring a rumored Chris Young or Jeff Francis signing for further insurance and [...]
