As our Mets Minor League expert Petey Pete unveils Brandon Nimmo at No. 5 in our 2012 MMO Top 20 Prospects, here’s an interview Joe Spector did with Nimmo in October. Enjoy the read, Mets fans! – Joe D. In his first year as General Manager of the New York Mets Sandy Alderson and his team of baseball executives led by Paul DePodesta, the Mets vice-president of player development and scouting entered the 2011 Draft […]
Recently I interviewed RHP Tyler Pill, who the Mets drafted last June in the 4th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft. A right-hander, Pill is an advanced college pitcher from a major baseball program at Cal State-Fullerton. As a result, he is someone who projects as a fast-riser in the system, with good command, quality stuff, athleticism, and the ability to pitch deep into ball games. After signing late last summer Tyler only got […]
I caught up to Brooklyn Cyclones left-hander T.J. Chism the other day, and he was kind enough to answer some questions for our readers at MetsMerizedOnline.com. T.J. had some really fascinating stuff to say, and there is no doubt that he will be a pitcher to keep an eye on as he progresses through the Mets minor league system on his way to the big leagues. Here’s what he had to say: Petey: First […]
When the Mets drafted RHP Brant Rustich in the second round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft, many thought with his size, strength, stuff, and advanced skills, that he would move quickly through the minor leagues and be ready to help out in the big league bullpen sooner rather than later. Many Mets fans began to dream of this 6’6″ hard throwing, relief ace coming out of the Mets bullpen to strike fear into the hearts […]
As we all know, Gil Hodges will be on the Veterans’ Committee Hall of Fame ballot for 2012. So expect to hear plenty of discussion over the next few months about whether or not he should be enshrined. I personally was not around when Gil played or managed, but I consider myself lucky to have heard the great stories of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the 1969 Miracle Mets. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. […]
Yesterday, Mark Healey was kind enough to answer a few questions for me on the state of the New York Mets. For those of you who don’t know, Mark is the Online Editor for Baseball Digest and also hosts, BD Fantasy Baseball on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. Among his many other projects, Mark is the Co-publisher and Executive Editor of Gotham Baseball, an online magazine that is a must-read for any baseball fan. For all you Mets fans […]
Recently, Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog was kind enough to answer a few questions for me via email, in which he shares his thoughts on some of the issues facing the Mets and the current state of the team. Joe – I am very concerned about Johan Santana despite the rosy outlook that he will be ready for spring training. First, he never came back last season and that really bothered me considering how many different timetables were […]
With all the fanfare surrounding the cool announcements the Mets made about the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the 1962 Mets this past week, I thought I’d share my interview with an original Met, first baseman Eddie Kranepool. Eddie of course was an original Met who began his career at the age of 17 in 1962 and played for the Amazins’ until the 1979 season when he retired after 18 seasons with the team at age 34.
David Wright was one of three Mets players selected to represent the team at the announcement of the 50th anniversary season Nov. 16 at Citi Field. I was on hand to cover the event for Metsmerized. Wright discussed a multitude of topics, while noting that he likes the team’s new uniforms and that his back is feeling very good after missing time last season due to injury. He said it’s been an honor to be […]
