The Evil Empire Just Can’t Show Pity

This isn’t something I usually cover, but I just felt the need to put it out there. Since I can’t put this any better, i’ll just quote you from MLBtraderumors. Because it wouldn’t be a normal day without some bad news for the Mets, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports on her Twitter account that Chris Carter, the more significant of the two players rumored to be headed to the Mets in exchange for [...]

Latest Season Ending Injury May Actually Improve The Team

In the ongoing saga of the 2009 Mets, here is the latest chapter. The Mets report, Mets pitcher Oliver Perez today was examined by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Upon the exam, Perez was diagnosed with patella tendon tendinosis in his right knee, which will require season-ending surgery. He is expected to fully recover and be ready for Spring Training. (Wanna bet?) Oliver Perez, 28, was [...]

J.J. Putz Out For The Season

The Mets got a double dose of bad news on the pitching front when setup man J.J. Putz was shutdown for the season after suffering a setback while rehabbing in Florida. Yesterday, Omar Minaya said that Putz’ scheduled rehab appearance had been canceled to give him an extra day of rest, but a few hours later Jerry Manuel announced that Putz was being shut down for the season because of new fraying and a slight tear [...]

According to a Mets press release, Johan Santana will require minor elbow surgery that will shut him down for the rest of this season. The good news is that he is expected to make a full recovery by the time pitchers and catchers report next spring. I know surgery is never a [...]

Wagner Traded To Red Sox For Two Prospects

According to a Tweet from SNY news director Brad Como, Billy Wagner has indeed been traded. SNY has learned that the Mets have traded Billy Wagner to the Red Sox for 2 players to be named later. The news is also being reported on the Mets flagship radio station, 660 WFAN. I’m anxious to learn all the details and if the Mets had to kick in any cash to complete the deal. I reported earlier that [...]

Give Howard Johnson The Boot

As we all know the Mets cannot do anything right this year.  One of their biggest weaknesses has been hitting home runs.  Playing in Citi Field does not make it any easier. With under 40 games left in this dreadful year, the Mets have just passed Barry Bonds on the home run list.  In 2001, as everyone knows Barry Bonds broke a major league record by hitting 73 home runs in one year.  Currently the [...]

NL East Report

Atlanta Braves: (6-4; -7) The Atlanta Braves took two of three from the Marlins and will face the San Diego Padres this week. Of note, Tim Hudson make a rehab start over the weekend in AAA. His scheduled opponent would have been Jake Peavy of the White Sox AAA affiliate, but Peavy was pushed a day back. Anyway, Hudson could be close to returning, as he threw 89 pitches in 6 innings of work. Florida [...]
