Counting Down to the End of Jerry and Other Thoughts
Last night was one of those rare moments in my long life as a Mets fan when I was actually torn about wanting them to win the game. At the same time I was hoping that Oliver Perez would get out of that 2AM New York time jam, I was also rooting for a total implosion which would help kill two birds with one baseball–perhaps getting both Ollie and Jerry out of town. As I [...]

Are Ollie’s Days As A Met Numbered?
It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Oliver Perez may have pitched his last game as a New York Met. Perez turned off many of his teammates when he refused to accept a minor league assignment before being shuffled to the DL with an encore performance of the mysterious knee injury. It even prompted an internal investigation by the commissioners office, Ollie certainly didn’t endear himself to manager Jerry Manuel with his unwillingness to work out his problems in [...]

Sean Green, Luis Castillo Close To Return, Fernando Tatis Out For The Season
Before Thursday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Jose Reyes was scratched from the lineup. He had discomfort in his right oblique, and will be shut down until he is 100 percent. Reyes hasn’t swung from the left side of the plate since last Sunday. Mets will continue to have rookie Ruben Tejada play short with Alex Cora playing second base for now. For those of you who don’t like the idea of Alex Cora playing [...]

You Play With Fire And You Get Burned
Jose Reyes was removed from todays game in the the top of the seventh inning after he re-aggravated his oblique injury while fielding a Troy Glaus grounder and throwing it to first base. Following the play, Reyes was visibly in pain and was limping around the infield before being removed and replaced by Ruben Tejada by manager Jerry Manuel. Reyes first suffered the injury on June 30 against the Marlins and after missing a few games, he convinced the Mets [...]

Nick Evans Returning To Mets
Remember Nick Evans? He was a healthy scratch from the lineup for AA-Binghamton leading Adam Rubin to believe he may soon be joining the Mets. On Wednesday, Mets manager Jerry Manuel indicated that he wanted a right handed batter on the bench in anticipation of the Braves series that starts today. Evans, 24, is having a solid bounce-back season and is hitting .290/.363/.518 with 24 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI in 303 AB for Binghamton. Evans has progressed [...]

Valdes was 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched this season. To make room for Valdes, Fernando Tatis was placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained right shoulder. The Mets said Tatis will undergo further testing at the Hospital for Special Surgery tomorrow. Jerry [...]
