8/6 Minor League Report! GUZMAN, Rivera!
INT AAA: Buffalo 6/7/2, Columbus 9/12/0 Tobi Stoner and Eddie Kunz had this one for the Bisons, and it was ugly. Stoner gave up 5 in 5.1 innings, Kunz gave up 4 in 2.2 innings, though he got all his outs via groundball. Buffalo made a late charge, but fell short. Nick Evans homered in the loss, his 6th in Buffalo. He’s now batting .256/.292/.477/.770 since returning to the Bisons from the Mets in July. [...]

Mets Re-acquire 2B Anderson Hernandez
Ed Price of AOL FanHouse is reporting that the Mets and the Nationals have swapped second basemen (Hat tip to MLB Trade Rumors). In exchange for the 26 year old, Anderson Hernandez, the Mets will send Class A prospect Greg Veloz. Not much of an acquisition if you ask me, as Hernandez is hitting below the league average. However, Hernandez is certainly an upgrade over what the Mets currently have at the Major League level [...]

A New Role For The Mets
With the Mets pretty much limping to the finish line of the 2009 baseball season I’m finding myself having to adjust the way I watch Met games. Yesterday I made an entry about how I’m rooting for individual players on this team, and wishing them the best. After thinking about that entry a bit, a thought occurred to me: this year the Mets can play spoiler. For the last two years the Florida Marlins have [...]

Series Preview: Mets (51-56) @ Padres (44-65)
The Mets begin a seven game road trip starting tonight against the San Diego Padres. Although any chance at going to the postseason is probably out of the question, if the team could pull it off – there is not better team to face than the San Diego Padres. The Padres have scored the fewest runs in baseball, and have a team batting average of .235. As long as the offense can hold their own, [...]

What If The Mets Headed To Sacred Heart?
As some of you may have noticed today, Zach Braff appeared on SNY’s telecast of the Mets/Cardinals game yesterday. During his interview with Kevin Burkhardt, Braff discussed how he was in the process of filming episodes for the popular sitcom, Scrubs, which is entering its ninth season. This sent me off on a random thought of which Mets players/announcers, both past and present, would play some of the show’s characters. I figured why not parlay [...]

Jon Niese Out For The Rest Of The Season!
Add Jon Niese to the disabled list for the rest of the year, the 22 year old lefthander suffered an injury in today’s afternoon game. It didn’t look good and as “luck” would have it the news is nowhere near good. Niese had an MRI done and the results of the MRI revealed a complete tear of his hamstring tendon. This injury will require for him to have season ending surgery but should be ready [...]

Injury Checklist
If you were watching today’s game when Gary Sheffield left the bases with apparent leg stiffness, Gary and Ron were reciting the litany of Met injuries, and having trouble remembering all of them. That got me wondering who has not been injured out of the Opening Day roster. Take a look: Out of the Opening Day lineup, only Wright and Murphy have never been injured. Castillo is listed because we don’t have enough information on [...]

8/5 Minor League Report! TEJADA, Lutz, SANTOMAURO, Van Gurp, Maron!
EL AA: Binghamton 4/9/0, Harrisburg 2/6/0 Eric Niesen had his highest strikeout game in AA, with 10 in 5 innings, including striking out the side in his final inning, picking up his 2nd victory, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits in the process. Connor Robertson pitched a perfect 9th for his 8th save. The Mets offense gathered 9 hits and 4 walks, while going 3 for 13 (.231) with RISP, leaving 9 on base. Ruben [...]

When Tom Becomes Pessimistic…..
We all have them—friends who are overly optimistic, even when things with our Mets look as grim as they possibly can. To put this in perspective, during Game 6 of the ’86 World Series, I was hanging out with a bunch of friends in a bar on Long Island. Among those friends was my buddy Tom from Bayside, and I distinctly remember Tom’s insane optimism through my beer-soaked haze as the season was slipping away. [...]

Enjoying The Next Two Months
At this stage of the game I would think that even the most optimistic of Met fans would have to agree that there will be no “meaningful September baseball” this year. With a schedule featuring mostly teams that were below .500 the Mets had a chance to make a splash in the NL Wild Card race, instead they made a thud. The Mets have been a part of my summer for well over thirty years, [...]

Mets Lose a Heartbreaker 12-7
If Mets fans were given a nickle for every heart breaking loss we’ve suffered beginning with Yadier Molina’s home run 3 years ago, we’d have enough to buy the ball club from the Wilpons. The Cardinals rallied in the ninth inning and Frankie Rodriguez blew his fourth save of the year to give the Red Birds the victory. Ankiel and Lugo got the inning started with back to back doubles to cut what was a 7-5 lead [...]
