Red Sox Acquire Andrew Bailey
ESPN.com’s Buster Olney is reporting that A’s closer Andrew Bailey and outfielder Ryan Sweeney have been traded to the Red Sox for right fielder Josh Reddick and two minor leaguers, third baseman Miles Head and right-hander Raul Alcantara. Bailey, 27, is eligible for arbitration for the first time after making only $465,000 this year, would be under the Red Sox control for the next three seasons. The 2009 AL Rookie of the Year was raised in New Jersey and posted a 2.18 [...]

Mets Can’t Make The Same Mistake Again With Wright
I guess I’m just like the Mets in a way, just passing the time until spring training. Even for teams with little chances, spring training brings anticipation and hope. I’m not going to bother you with posts about the Mets not going after guys like Matt Garza and Prince Fielder, because you know as well as I do that’s not going to happen. That’s not news, it is stating the obvious. To answer the question [...]

What The Hell Do I Know…
So last night I’m having an email exchange with one of our writers, Clayton Collier. We talked about the Mets and Dickey mostly when he suddenly tells me he just asked free agent Omar Vizquel if he would ever consider signing with the Mets if they made him an offer. Surprisingly, Vizquel replied and said, “Not, really”. Clayton wondered if he should make a post about it on MMO and of course I told him I don’t think [...]

MMO 2012 Mets Top Prospects #’s 21-30
In putting together the MMO Mets Top 20 Prospect List for 2012, one thing became very clear, very fast. There were going to be some deserving players left off the list because of a numbers crunch. So now that the Top 20 are in the rear-view mirror, let’s explore the next 30 or so prospects. This week, I am listing the first group of ten, #’s 21-30. This group is pitching heavy, and has a little of [...]

Mets Ask R.A. Dickey Not To Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Mets have now asked Dickey not to make his charity climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Though the journey is not exactly a treacherous one, the Mets still sent him a letter telling him they would void his contract should he sustain any injuries on the journey. “I don’t think there’s really any lethal risk to doing it,” said Dickey. “It’s not like it’s Everest.“ Sandy Alderson [...]

Forget Smith And Take A Look At Spilborghs
I’m not understanding all this buzz over Colorado outfielder Seth Smith. A few Mets rumors have even hinted that the Mets could swap either Jon Niese or Daniel Murphy for the Rockies’ 4th outfielder. Really? Why? Snith, 29, has had a very mediocre career batting .275 with a .348 OBP in 1,286 AB over his five year major league career. He’s a corner outfielder with good range, but doesn’t always catch what he gets to. [...]

Should The Mets Go After Jaime Moyer?
With the Mets strapped for cash, and lacking starting pitching depth, a cheap option could be the 49-year old Jaime Moyer. Moyer could not only fill the hole in the rotation should Santana not be ready come Opening Day, but also serve as a mentor to the younger pitchers. With a club that lacks leadership, a guy like Moyer brings a veteran presence, to say the least, and could be a great influence on the young, 2012 New [...]

John Sickels: New York Mets Top 20 Prospects for 2012
From the great John Sickels of Minor League Ball, here are your 2012 Top 20 Mets Prospects: 1) Matt Harvey, RHP, Grade B+: He can be a number two starter and someone to build around. Some evaluators see him more as a closer if his changeup remains erratic, but I’m cutting him some slack on that issue and am optimistic. 2) Zack Wheeler, RHP, Grade B+: This is actually more like Harvey -A and Wheeler 1-B. They are very close [...]

MMO Flashback: Mets Trade Le Grande Orange
Here’s something I dug up from a couple of years ago that brings us back to the hot stove season of 1975, when the Mets also traded one of the team’s most popular players – a move they would eventually regret. Mike Lloyd does a nice job in the re-telling of what happened back then. Examining Hot Stove history from the Past. December 12th 1975 – The New York Mets trade Rusty Staub and Bill [...]

What To Expect From The Mets In 2012
Anthony DiComo talks about what the Mets could expect to do n 2012. I’m not expecting much in 2012 from the Amazins’, especially with a team that must now overcome the losses of Beltran, Reyes and K-Rod from last Opening Day’s roster. Like last year, they will once again be banking on a healthy return from Johan Santana who now finds himself a year older at 33 and still hasn’t thrown a pitch since August [...]

MMO Flashback: Ya Gotta Believe–Words To Live By
This edition of MMO Flashback goes back to December of 2008 when Rob Silverman who you all know as Tie Dyed, penned a heartwarming tribute to one of the all time great Mets, Tug McGraw. Enjoy! Throughout our storied history, we’ve had more than our share of characters and colorful figures. The fist-pumping curtain calls of Gary Carter have been replaced by the dancing of Jose Reyes. But if Tom Seaver was the heart of [...]
