Nationals Strong On Cespedes, Even Stronger On Fielder
The Washington Nationals have made no secret of their goal to add an impact power bat to their lineup this offseason. GM Mike Rizzo is currently in the Dominican Republic scouting Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, reports Bill Ladson of MLB.com. The Nationals believe Cespedes is big league ready and believe the right-handed-hitting slugger would fit nicely with Michael Morse and Jayson Werth in the middle of the lineup. According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Nationals view Cespedes as an [...]

Balance Is The Key To The New CBA
While details about the new CBA are still coming in, it seems one thing is quite apparent about this new deal. It was an exercise in balancing the inequities in the league. It starts off by balancing the AL and NL to have the same number of teams. While this does not appear to have much of an effect on team building it does balance one of the inequities inherent in the interleague play that [...]

Have Your Feelings Toward Bobby V Changed Now That He’s With Red Sox?
A couple days ago, I brought a question up to MMO Facebook fans regarding Bobby Valentine. I asked the following question. If Bobby Valentine becomes the Red Sox new manager, will you still like Bobby V, or will this move make you want to hate him? After I posted this question, Mets fans responded with some very passionate and heated responses. It was great to read everyone’s opinions on the matter and from most of [...]

This Is How The World Will End
I couldn’t help but laugh at the big fuss over Jose Reyes grabbing a bite to eat in Philly last night. Funnier still was waking up to blaring headlines connecting Reyes to some clandestine negotiations with the Phillies who were covertly wining and dining the former Mets shortstop. Phillies officials responded like this: “That is such bull.” . . . “Absolutely nuts.” . . . “I haven’t heard that guy’s name mentioned in our offices [...]

Buzz: Mets Closing In On A Closer?
Sandy Alderson has made his intentions clear regarding his pursuit of a reliver who can assume the closer’s role for the team next season. Despite missing out on relievers Joe Nathan and Jonathan Broxton (who they really wanted), the Mets still have several options remaining in Octavio Dotel, Brad Lidge, Matt Capps, Frank Francisco and a few others. Broxton signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Royals, which the Mets felt was was too high, given the injury histroy [...]

Morning Grind: Mets Will Regret Letting Nick Evans Slip Away
Given the financial situation the Mets are currently in, holding on to a guy like Nick Evans should have been a no-brainer. Not only would Evans have been a quality bat and add much-needed depth to a very thin, not-so-Amazin’ roster, but come at a relatively inexpensive price. This 25-year old has been up and down from the minors so many times with the Mets that I don’t blame him for skipping town on the [...]

Francisco Cordero Makes the Most Sense for The Mets
So far this offseason, the Mets have been linked to several free-agent closers including Joe Nathan, Matt Capps, Frank Francisco, and Jonathan Broxton. The team has also been linked to one player who, in my opinion, probably makes the most sense for the Mets. Francisco Cordero. Cordero, who was with the Reds in 2011, saved 37 games, won 5 games, and had a 2.45 ERA in 68 appearances. Out of the list of potential closers [...]

Bobby Valentine To Be Named Red Sox’ New Manager
After the severe lack of discipline that ran rampant throughout the clubhouse of Fenway Park, the Red Sox have now hired Bobby Valentine as their new skipper, replacing the passive Terry Francona. According to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, Valentine will be officially hired upon his return from Japan tomorrow. The beloved former Mets manager will bring a much needed leadership role to the squad and will not put up with any nonsense as seen throughout the month [...]

Pirates Sign Nick Evans
According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, Nick Evans has signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Evans had a decent season in 2011 batting .256/.314/.403 with four home runs and 25 RBI over 192 PA in 59 games for the Mets. In 2010, he had a solid showing and posted a .300/.371/.536 slash with 23 homeruns and 80 RBIs in 548 PA between Binghamton and Buffalo. Evans could thrive in Pittsburgh where he [...]

MMO Exclusive Interview: NY Mets Pitching Prospect – Brant Rustich, RHP
When the Mets drafted RHP Brant Rustich in the second round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft, many thought with his size, strength, stuff, and advanced skills, that he would move quickly through the minor leagues and be ready to help out in the big league bullpen sooner rather than later. Many Mets fans began to dream of this 6’6″ hard throwing, relief ace coming out of the Mets bullpen to strike fear into the hearts [...]
