When Will Dan Warthen And The Mets Part Ways?
I know it’s only April, we’re less than 20 games into a very long 2011 season, but so far the pitching has been bad. Actually bad is an understatement, the pitching from the entire staff has been downright awful! There is no way to sugarcoat it, the team as of this writing is currently 5-13, the worst record in the majors. Now the offense is not producing the way it should, I’ll give the pitching [...]

Video: Mark Cohoon Fans 11 Batters
Last night, left-hander Mark Cohoon recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts and allowed two unearned runs on five hits over seven innings as the Binghamton Mets defeated the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-2. “I had good control tonight,” Cohoon said. “I was able to command my fastball in to hitters and keep them honest at the plate. I was able to throw everything else on the other side of the plate. Cohoon, 23, currently has a 0.47 ERA [...]

A Few More Names For The Chopping Block
It’s official… We are now the worst team in baseball and no team has more losses than the Mets. Ugh… I guess that the only good thing you could say about sucking this bad, is that there’s nowhere else to go but up… One would hope… A few things… What’s with some of the outrage over yesterday’s release of Brad Emaus? Is this Rule 5 pick really worth the fuss? It’s been over 15 years since [...]

Are The Mets A 100 Loss Team?
After tonight’s loss to the Astros, the New York Mets are now 1-8 at home in Citi Field. It is their worst home start in franchise history, surpassing the Original Mets who went 1-7 at the Polo Grounds during their 1962 expansion season before winning their next home game. With their overall record now at 5-13, it is thier poorest start since going 3-15 in 1964. Is a 100 loss season in their future this season? The more you [...]

Why Is Scott Hairston Still Here?
As Ted Berg from Tequarters mentioned today in an article about Bobby Parnell’s apparent finger injury: The other thing: A bunch of Mets fans seem really eager to show Scott Hairston the door, and I certainly hear that. He has looked awful at the plate and underwhelming in the field. The last time I said a guy needed more time he got cut (specifically: today), but I have to figure the Mets will have a [...]

Parnell To The DL, Izzy To Setup, Bay Back Tomorrow
Some quick items of note from Mets manager Terry Collins who spoke to beat reporters just a short while ago… The Mets have placed reliever Bobby Parnell on the 15 day disabled list with numbness in his finger. He is expected to undergo further tests tomorrow including an MRI to try and see if he has a blood clot. For now, team doctors have placed Parnell on an aspirin regimen which will act as a blood thinner to help [...]

One Thing Is Clear; Terry Collins Is No Jerry Manuel
Were any of you wondering what transpired the other day in Atlanta, when Daniel Murphy tried to steal third base and was out by a mile? You may remember an enraged (or was it embarrassed) Terry Collins taking Murphy into the back of the dugout as soon as trotted off the field with his head down. Here is what transpired according to a source that told Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record. Daniel Murphy, standing on [...]

From Left Field: Mets Have A Short Leash Early
Though the season is a little more than two weeks old, the New York Mets have already shown that they are not afraid to pull the trigger if a player is underperforming. The combination of Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins is attempting to light a fire under their players. Part of the way they’re going about this is by letting players know that if they don’t show up, they’ll be sent out. The first instance [...]

Time to Push the Panic Button: How to Fix the Mets
Even just 17 games into the season, it is fairly clear that the Mets are in big trouble. The team is sitting at 5-12 and they are already 5.5 games behind the Phillies. It is not as if the Phillies are even playing their best baseball of the season yet. They are still without Chase Utley. The Mets have already jettisoned their Opening Day second baseman and the team has placed Chris Young on the [...]

Bobby Parnell Feeling Numbness, Could Be Headed To DL
After tonight’s 6-1 loss to the Astros, Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters that he met with setup man Bobby Parnell in the trainers room, where he was being examined after feeling some discomfort. Collins said he was concerned because he hasn’t seen Parnell throwing his upper nineties fastball and is worried that there may be a problem. Parnell later said that he’s been having a hard time gripping the baseball with his middle finder for more than a week, and [...]
