A Concussion Discussion

I should have known that the concussion issue would come up today at the Mets game between Keith and Ron – both daily NY Times readers and crossword puzzlers. Both men were very glad about the new guidelines, having been around the Mets during some strange happenings with concussions. First was Ryan Church who was put on an airplane to the coast with his concussion and was never the same after that. Today, Jason Bay [...]

Doug’s Dugout: Big Hopes, Big Injuries, Bigger Heads

In Doug’s Dugout today we discuss: Opening Day, how to follow the Mets this season, and the sad case of Barry Bonds. Are there any two words sweeter to a baseball fan than, “Opening Day?” On Friday, we get to utter it, with one caveat: It’s a night tilt. How awful is that? Opening Day falls on a night. What Can Lucas Duda Do If He Gets a Shot on Opening Day?

As Joe detailed, Jason Bay’s injury could be a concern for the Mets for longer than just the beginning of the season.  Rib injuries tend to linger and this could affect Bay all year. Izzy To Stay In Extended Spring Training For Two More Weeks

In a decision that is somewhat a surprise with the recent announcement of adding Blaine Boyer to the Mets’ bullpen, Jason Isringhausen has agreed to spend two more weeks in extended spring training to build his arm strength. “I’ve come this far, another two weeks is not going to kill me…” Isringhausen told reporters” For what its worth, Isringhausen was just coming off an injury and probably knew that his performance, as well as his [...]

The Bay Injury Worries Me

Jason Bay is in New York after he was sidelined with a strain in his left intercostal muscle, which is located near the rib cage. Apparently, Bay injured himself while taking batting practice on Tuesday. You may remember he had previously asked out of a couple of games because of back soreness prior to that. Some are reporting that he may be in danger of starting the season on the disabled list. The team expects to [...]
