Sandy Alderson And The Spotted Elephant In The Room
We keep hearing all the raves about Sandy Alderson and about what a tremendous record of accomplishment he’s had building the Oakland Athletics into a powerhouse and then laying the groundwork for success as GM of the San Diego Padres. His character, reputation and ability to build a cohesive smooth running environment at all levels of an organization is unparalleled. I do have two questions for Sandy Alderson that I’d love to have the answer [...]

The 2010 MLB Sporting News Awards – No Mets Edition
While we all wait for the Cy Young and MVP Award announcements, The Sporting News dished out their own awards yesterday and name Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton the MLB Player of the Year. Hamilton edged out Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto according to the MLB writer Stan McNeal. Here are the rest of the 2010 The Sporting News winners: Pitchers of the Year AL: Felix Hernandez, SP, Mariners NL: Roy Halladay, SP, Phillies Managers [...]

Morning Grind: Duncan, Sandy, Greinke, Minority Hires
Good morning, Met Nation. The one thing I can say about offseasons in Flushing–they may not have been always replete with respective playoff runs, division pennants and world championship hoistings but there are always, always opportunities. Dan, You Thought We Forgot You? With so much love going on towards the GM search and those fans that still talk trade, the pitching coach has gone under the radar. I suppose the 46-28 W-L for our top 4 [...]

Lets Get Something Straight About Fielder and Davis
About a week ago, one of my co-bloggers, Jim Mancari, wrote a great blog in which he posed the question, “Would You Trade Ike Davis For Prince Fielder“. Jim did a great job looking at the pros and cons and breaking it down. He concluded, I will be the first to say that I am extremely torn on this possibility. I enjoyed watching Davis for us this year. He had some clutch hits and hit some [...]

Breaking News: Mets Have Class, Yankee Fans Don’t
Have you heard the big news making its way through the Mets blogosphere today? In a stunning admission made to a local TV reporter on Tuesday afternoon, Mets GM candidate Logan White said on Tuesday that the “Mets treated him with class”. Okay, so there’s that… And then there’s some real news! YANKEES ON VERGE OF ELIMINATION! As an avowed Yankee hater, the Rangers beating the Yankees has softened the blow of another bad Mets season. [...]

Mets Were Wrong To Settle With K-Rod
Yesterday the inevitable news broke that the Mets and Francisco Rodriguez (K-Rod) came to a settlement after K-Rod attacked his girlfriend’s father. The results of the settlement means that K-Rod is now off the disqualified list and his contract is still guaranteed. In turn the Mets will not pay K-Rod his 2010 salary of 3.1 million dollars. If his option vests next year, he will still get paid $29 million dollars for the next two seasons. I guess this [...]

Morning Grind: Hiring Practices, Daniels, Frenchy, 3 Amigos
Met Nation, We are a bit closer to locking down our GM, the first chip in the succession of moves that are supposed to take the Mets back to the promise land. A bit much? Well, that’s the way we should view these moves. Really. Nothing less than this should be expected by any of us, the Wilpons, or the players themselves. I think having that attitude has been understated for way too long in [...]

Why You Should Want Alderson
The New York Mets are an excellent comparison to the United States voter population in the 2008 Presidential Race. Whether you voted for one or the other, you know as well as I do that the theme of that race was “change.” Not only was it the theme then, but it’s the theme now with elections being held in about two weeks. Everybody wants to see “change,” because in one way or the other they [...]

Cliff Is Certain-Lee Worth Considering For The New Mets GM
Everyone expects that next season Cliff Lee will be pitching a lot more in Yankee stadium, as the ace of their rotation. And while it’s definitely a strong possibility, I’m not willing to write off the possibility that he can still remain with the Rangers or that the Mets are a contender for his services. Watching Cliff Lee dominate the Yankees last night was pure magic. I’m living my Mets dreams through the Texas Rangers right now and [...]

Win Some, Lose Some, Draw None
It has been well-documented that attendance at Citi Field suffered a significant drop-off from its inaugural season in 2009 to the just-completed 2010 season. Last year, a total of 3,168,571 tickets were sold to Mets home games. That number dropped to 2,559,738 in 2010. The significant drop-off in home attendance can be attributed to numerous things, such as the luster of the new ballpark wearing off and the team’s second consecutive losing season. [...]

Mets and Rodriguez Come To An Agreement
The Mets and Francisco Rodriguez have reached a settlement on the contract dispute and grievance filed against the Mets. Francisco Rodriguez has told the Players Association not to challenge the Mets decision to withhold his salary for the remainder of the 2010 season. In return, the Mets have told Rodriguez they will not seek to convert his contract to a non-guaranteed contract, and he will be removed from the Disqualified List. As such, the Mets do not [...]
