George Steinbrenner Dies of Heart Attack
As you may have heard, this morning at 6:30 AM in Tampa, Florida, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner passed away after suffering a massive heart attack. We want to extend our condolences on the passing of one of the giants of the game and a New York icon. Rest In Peace George. “He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost, he was devoted to his entire family — his beloved wife, Joan; his [...]

Revisiting Mets Preseason Questions
When pitchers and catchers reported Feb. 18, I posted five key questions the Mets faced heading into the season. Let’s revisit those questions at the All-Star break. Question 1: What is this team’s attitude? Assessment: By all accounts, it has been superb. There is a different chemistry in the Mets clubhouse than I have previously seen. The Mets have shown a remarkable resiliency to bounce back from adversity and Sunday’s win is just another example. [...]

Whatever Happened To Prevention And Recovery?
After last year’s injury plagued season the Mets unveiled a new slogan in Spring Training. That slogan was “prevention and recovery.” They had it posted in the clubhouse in Florida and after last year it was nice to see that the Mets were going to start taking injuries a little more serious. Fast forward to July and it seems that the Mets have forgotten about “prevention and recovery.” I’m talking in regard to Jose Reyes’ [...]

The 2010 Mets: A Look Back, A Look Ahead
The New York Mets started this season with the hopes of making up for the previous three disappointing seasons. The acquisition of Jason Bay, a healthy Johan Santana, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran and a comeback season for David Wright all made for a very promising year of baseball in Queens. A Look Back: The Positives Hitting I’d like to say that David Wright has been the pleasant surprise of the first half. But he [...]

It’s Time To Put Up Or Shut Up
The All-Star Game isn’t until tomorrow, but my thoughts have already turned to the post-Break schedule for the Mets. The Mets are one of nine teams in the hotly contested National League playoff race. The other eight teams are either leading their respective divisions, leading the Wild Card race or within two games of the Wild Card leader. The Mets will play six of those eight teams between July 15 (the first game after the [...]

The Booing of Jason Bay or Why Some Fans are Idiots
When I heard Jason Bay get booed it was the last straw. The last straw as far as keeping my feelings about the booing of home team players as simply a rant among my friends. It was bad enough when David Wright was booed during last season and earlier this year. But when I heard Jason Bay pilloried at Citi Field during the recent series against the Braves, I had to write something–somewhere–to get my [...]

It’s Official – Beltran’s Back!
It is now official, Carlos Beltran will return to the Mets lineup after the All Star break. In an article on ESPN New York, Beltran talks about his return to the game he loves, “I’m happy to be back and a part of the team,” Beltran said at Citi Field before Sunday’s Mets-Atlanta Braves game. “[And to] try to help accomplish our mission: trying to win the division and trying to be in the playoffs.” [...]

Good Golly, Miss Ollie?
Thomas Kaplan of the NY Times updates us on Oliver Perez who made his third minor league start for Class AAA Buffalo this afternoon. Perez had a rough outing Sunday. He allowed only one unearned run in five innings, but they were five extraordinarily ugly innings: Perez gave up three hits and five walks; hit two batters; and threw two wild pitches. Only 52 of his 100 pitches were strikes, and he also made a throwing [...]

Don’t Mess With The Johan, Mets Beat Braves 3-0
Johan Santana pitched seven shutout innings, and despite only scant run support, the Mets were able to tally 13 hits in a 3-0 win over the Braves. The first half ends in on a winning note for the Mets. Game Notes Johan Santana pitched like the ace that we traded for. Last outing he went nine complete shutout innings and got the win and today he followed that up with seven more shutout innings. Now making it [...]
