So Maybe The Mets Are a Mess, But There’s Still HOPE!

It’s been almost three months since my last missive (it gets old using the word “blog”) because once the hot stove league season ended (another campaign the Mets lost, by the way), I didn’t think it would be healthy or productive to comment on every twist and turn of spring training or even the first couple of weeks of the season. But let me tell ya, reading this and other Mets-related websites every day, and [...]

Igarashi To The DL, Acosta Called Up

The Mets have placed reliever Ryota Igarashi on the 15-day disabled list and promoted Manny Acosta from Triple-A Buffalo. After his MRI Wednesday morning, the Mets announced that he sustained a moderate injury to his left hamstring in last night’s game. The right-hander strained his left hamstring in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s 4-0 victory over the Cubs when he squatted to field a bunt. Iggy was just beginning to emerge as a viable setup man in the [...]

Source: Mets Have No Chance At Roy Oswalt

This morning one of our readers commented about possibly making a trade for Roy Oswalt of the Astros. And although I totally disagreed with having to give up Mike Pelfrey for him, the thought of adding Oswalt seemed quite intriguing. 1. Johan Santana 2. Roy Oswalt 3. Mike Pelfrey 4. Oliver Perez 5. Jon Niese Since then, WFAN has been abuzz with talk of Oswalt, but now I came across this post by Adam Rubin [...]

Mike Jacobs Clears Waivers

According to Adam Rubin via Twitter, Mike Jacobs has cleared waivers and could report to Buffalo. Jacobs hit .208 with one homer and two RBIs in 24 at-bats before being designated for assignment Sunday. Jacobs has indicated he would be willing to go to Triple-A Buffalo if playing time exists. It’s not surprising that 29 other MLB teams passed on Jacobs. What was surprising, although not really, was that the Mets signed Jacobs in the first [...]

Beltran Setback Fueling Wild Speculation & Conspiracy Theories

Update 4/21 1:30 PM According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Dr. Steadman, who performed the surgery on Carlos Beltran in January, told Carlos Beltran he should not run until all ‘hot spots,’ or bone bruises, are healed in his knee. However, Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus is accusing the Mets of another coverup and writes, Hearing that Beltran’s exam was more negative than is being let on. “No progress, none at all.” Curious if Boras will comment. [...]

High Hopes + Low Expectations = No Consolation

Sorry Mets Merized fans.  I am still unwilling to dive head first into the Koolaid just yet, and I’m still somewhat negative on the 2010 Mets.  I know it’s early and a lot can happen.  And there are some positives.  But overall I see a bleak picture for the 2010 season.  A .500 winning percentage is the best that I see. What we’ve seen so far through the first 14 games is a team that is [...]

Pelfrey Continues Dominance In 4-0 Mets Win

In another spectacular outing from Mike Pelfrey, the Mets put up enough offense to beat the Cubs 4-0 for their second straight victory. Game Notes: In a game that was fairly stagnant offensively, Mike Pelfrey managed to hold the Cubs to 6 total baserunners – 3 on hits and 3 on walks in 7 innings. What makes this occurrence even more amazing is the fact Mike Pelfrey pitched an inning in the 2-1 20 inning marathon of [...]

4/20 Minor League Report! TIBERIUS, Duda, Valdespin, Lagares, WILMER, GRONAUER!

AAA International League: Buffalo 11/13/0, Scranton 7/12/0 I guess the Bisons offense isn’t that bad, huh? They hammered out 13 hits and drew 5 walks en route to a wild 11-7 victory over the Yankees this afternoon. Prospects Josh Thole and Fernando Martinez were a combined 3 for 7 with 4 runs and 3 RBI. Fernando crushed his first homer of the season. Ruben Tejada chipped in with a pair of doubles for the Bisons, [...]

Edinson Volquez Suspended for PED Use

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com,  Reds starting pitcher Edinson Volquez has been suspended 50 games for vilating the MLB policy on PED use. It is believed Volquez failed the test during spring training. Major League Baseball confirmed the suspension in a press release and said the suspension will take effect April 21. Volquez was an NL All-Star in 2008, his first year with Cincinnati, and was off to a 4-2 start with a 4.35 ERA [...]

Can Mets Pelfrey Solidify New Status?

After 2 weeks and 12 games the Mets saw everything we saw and have been saying since the spring. The team made alterations to their lineup and ballclub. By calling up Ike Davis, designating Mike Jacobs, and adding youth to the Mets clubhouse, a looser, more cohesive team appears to have immediately been the by product of the move, as evidenced by last night’s victory and post game antics. (How was the shaving cream pie [...]

Three Keys For The Mets Offense To Improve

Although it is early in the season, as Mets fans many of us are already pressing the panic button in regards to the offense. A variety of factors can affect why an offense may be lagging early in the season (Tough schedule, facing tough opponents, weather, location) but those factors weigh on the mindset of the Met pitching staff, which has been phenomenal thus far sans John Maine. A few factors will play into the [...]
