One Game Under .500, Not Too Bad

Through the first 17 games of the season the New York Mets are 8-9. No, this is not the fast start that us fans had wanted to see the team get off to, but it not too bad considering the losses of the first 4 series. Also, we are yet to see the offense come alive with Wright and Bay not producing at their normal rate. The pitching staff is not as bad as many [...]

Keith and Ron Know Their Elton

I don’t know about you, but as a die-hard Elton John fan I was thrilled when during last night’s game against the Braves, Keith Hernandez mentioned the song “I’ve Seen That Movie Too,” an obscure number from Elton’s 1973 “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album. (I believe it was during that conference on the mound where our boys were discussing yet another John Maine injury.) And what was even more impressive was that both Keith and [...]

Reyes Comes Alive, Mets win 5-2

Even with a John Maine injury, the Mets offense proved effective in their 5-2 win versus the Atlanta Braves Game Notes John Maine looked decent for 3 2/3 innings until he was pulled with an injury in his left, non throwing elbow. Maine walked two, struck out three and gave up one run which was right before he was pulled. His velocity was still around 90, but in the early innings he was throwing strikes [...]

4/23 Minor League Report! Tiberius, WELCH!

AAA International League: Buffalo 3/9/0, Pawtucket 5/5/0 Tobi Stoner got ripped for 5 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks in 6 innings for his second IL loss of the season tonight. Kiko Calero had a clean 2 innings in relief, striking out 4. The Bisons offense had 9 hits and drew 4 walks while going a pitiful 1 for 13 (.077), leaving 10 on base, and striking out 7 times. Jason Pridie and Ruben [...]

Congratulations Ike On Your First Home Run!

Congratulations to Ike Davis on his first Major League home run! The rookie first baseman hit his first major-league home run tonight, and boy was it something to behold! It was a long drive into the Shea Bridge in right-center field in the fifth inning against the Braves and tied the game 1-1 at the time. The blast was estimated at 440 feet, wow!

What If Beltran Doesn’t Return?

Last night’s Met victory provided me with a brief moment of satisfaction as it pertains to this team. It’s frustrating seeing the Mets flailing away at the baseball at times. Johan pitched pretty well however, and the Mets finally won a series. Rejoice Met Nation! I must broach a subject that has perplexed and exasperated me these last 48 hours though… All winter and spring, I had deluded myself into believing Carlos Beltran would return in mid [...]

Amazin’ Saberhead Vs The Amazing Kreskin

I came across an interesting post by Jerry Vrentas of the Star-Ledger who reveals that Omar Minaya has been consulting frequently with a sabermetric guru before making a trade or player acquisition. Meet Ben Baumer, who serves as the Mets’ official Statistical Analyst, Baumer has been serving the Mets in this role for the last seven seasons going back to Jim Duquette who hired him. (You mean there was someone else to blame for that ill-fated Victor [...]

Mets New Lineup: Reyes 3rd Ahead Of Bay 4th

We all know about the on again, off again musings of Jerry Manuel with regards to batting Jose Reyes third in the lineup, a move that Reyes is strongly opposed to. In fact, Manuel had planned on unveiling Reyes in the third spot during the Cardinals series last weekend, but backed off after Reyes began chirping to the media. Well according to a report by Adam Rubin, Reyes batting third is back on again and it [...]
