He is expected to join the Phillies immediately and is likely would be the team’s long man and spot starter. The Mets designated Figueroa for assignment over the weekend. The pressure is kind of off
Sure, we’re all thrilled that the Mets continued their Opening Day dominance on Monday with a win over the Marlins to start the 2010 season. It was a very complete performance with Johan Santana, Fernando Nieve and K-Rod holding the Marlins to one run; and our hitters, starting with David Wright belting a first-inning two-run homer against our nemesis Josh Johnson, delivering enough runs to make it a rout. Newcomers Jason Bay, Gary Matthews Jr. [...]

Checking In With Some Friends…
Our old friend David Ponte from NYsportSpace, is at it again and draws on his unique wit to compile his “10 Positive Prophecies for the 2010 Mets“. I always enjoy reading his take take on the Mets and this one is definitely worth a look. My favorite one is number three: Johan Santana will throw a no hitter at CitiField. This pitching accomplishment has eluded every Mets pitcher that’s ever donned Blue and Orange. Johan will do [...]

Bay Rings The Bell…
Put it in the books. It was a thing of beauty in game 1, from the weather to the pitching to the timely hitting. Who can complain about the best opening day franchise in baseball? No Met fan in Met Nation could have hoped for a better opener. (Unless we are talking about a no hitter from Johan) Something caught my eye more than David Wright’s opposite field HR, more than Johan’s performance. More than [...]

Just Not The Same Buzz For Opening Day
I attended my 7th opening day yesterday. It was the perfect day for baseball, and the Mets looked great. David Wright floated back into the heavens and made everyone breathe a deep cleansing breath of relief, and Johan Santana looked almost like the vintage ace of old. So then why was I not completely ecstatic? Sorry if I come off as a pessimist, but there was a very heavy sense of anxiety throughout the day. It [...]

Time To Give Luis Castillo a Break!
Opening Day is a new beginning, whether you’re optimistic or pessimistic, it should be a day to celebrate the potential that your team could have a great season. It should be a day to enjoy the game you love, and say goodbye to the dreary winter months. Your team gets introduced for the first time, and if you’re lucky, you’re at the 1st home game of the year to show your support for your team! [...]

Optimists Have Their Day In The Sun
Yesterday, opening day, the optimists ruled. The naysayers out there already have their rebuttals. “You had Santana pitching, you should have won. Now lets see what you’ve got”. Perhaps they are right. Certainly 2009, nor this most recent spring training has given even the most loyal Mets fans some ill conceived notions that this team will win the NL East going away in a wire to wire race. Plus the fact, regardless if you win [...]

An Ode To Mets Opening Day
This is what happens when you wake up too early and can’t fall back asleep… Ode To Mets Opening Day The sun shined brightly on this first day, As the faithful filled the seats. With thoughts of yesteryear on their minds, You could hear all their heartbeats. It wasn’t long until our ace appeared, Standing tall for all to see. And he looked those Marlins in the eye, And retired them 1-2-3. The golden boy strode to the [...]

2010 Gets Off To A Great Start!
I know this is a positive post and it’s only been one game but that was a big and important win for the Mets and the fans. After the disaster of last year the Mets needed this first win behind their ace and they got that win! Jason Bay had a good 1st day, going 2-4 with a triple and scored a run, Barajas went 2-4 hitting a double, driving in a run and scored [...]
