Sorry Joe D. – Too Early To Call The Mets Legit

Joe D, I loved your article.  As you say: Sometimes, all it takes is just one guy to reinvigorate a clubhouse and get them motivated and excited and focused on the big picture which is winning baseball games. The change in the clubhouse started when Jeff Francoeur arrived, and it’s taken longer than I expected for everyone to start coming around, but ultimately they have and that’s what is most important. The arrival of Ike [...]

Ike Davis: The Rug That Ties The Room Together

First, allow myself to introduce…myself.  The handle is Taryn, but you can call me Coop, some circles know me as “The Coop,” and others know me as “The Coopinatrix.”  Erm, plead the fifth on that one.  Anyway, I am the primary contributor of a three years running Mets blog called “My Summer Family,” a passionate narrative from a cool chick and the love for her baseball team.  I contribute to other sites as well, and [...]

It’s All The Little Things That Make These Mets Legit

Brian Costa of the Star-Ledger just posted an update to his blog about the Mets being on the field for some early batting practice at Citizen’s Bank Park. Nothing big really, every team on any given day will have a few players go out and take in some early swings before the mandatory reporting time. But I couldn’t help noticing something that Costs added at the end of his post, It’s not unusual for the [...]

Beltran Still Not Close To A Return

At the end of spring training, Carlos Beltran said he wanted to begin running exercises in Port St. Lucie on April 10, and rejoin the Mets by at least early May, but after three weeks of Beltran’s self-imposed deadline he is still not close to returning. According to the New York Daily News Beltran was fitted for a custom knee brace last week in which he hoped would help accelerate his rehabilitation. That occurred during an April 20 visit to the [...]

Mets @ Phillies Series Preview

There are few things in life I dislike more than Philadelphia sports teams. I dislike the guy who tells a little kid there’s no Santa less than I dislike Philly sports teams. I dislike Global Warming less than I dislike Philly teams. I dislike close-talkers less than I dislike Philly sports teams. I find Yanni and Desperate Housewives to be more likeable… than Philly sports teams. Finally, yes…I even dislike the NY Yankees LESS than I dislike Philly [...]

NL East Report

Philadelphia Phillies: (12-9; -.5) The Phillies lost two of three to the San Francisco Giants, and the game that they won is a case to why pitch counts should be taken with a grain of common sense, On Wednesday, the Giants were leading 4-1 in the 9th with Tim Lincecum (who recorded 11 K’s) still going. Lincecum got the first out in the inning before giving up a walk to Shane Victorino. Lincy was then [...]

Big Pelf Is Coming Of Age Before Our Eyes

The fact that one of tomorrow’s starters is 4-0 with a 0.69 ERA and it’s not Roy Halladay shows just how far Mike Pelfrey has come in the first month of the season. Pelfrey knows that he will face his toughest test of this young season when the Mets face Halladay and the Phillies in the second game of the series. “I think sometimes, when you go against guys that are great, I think [...]

Mets Pitchers Are Thriving Because Opponents Aren’t Driving

The Mets are off to an impressive start in the National League East.  Coming into tonight’s opener of their crucial weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets find themselves in first place with a 13-9 record.  Although the team still hasn’t fired on all cylinders in the hitting department, their pitching has performed beyond expectations and has been the main reason for the Mets’ early season success. Lack of control was the Achilles heel [...]

Here Come The Mets!!!

Just a little something to set the mood for the huge weekend series against the Phillies. Do you remember how down we all were only two weekends ago? Now we’re the ones that are striking fear down the spines of opposing teams. Baseball is so amazing that way… I have three things that I would love to see from the Mets tomorrow night… #1 – Jon Niese uncorks a high and inside fastball that sends Victorino sprawling to [...]

Thank You Mets Fans… You Did It Again!

Last night I took a look at my weekly stats report from the week of April 18-24 and was surprised to see that MMO had reached another milestone. It’s been a while since I shared some sire info, so I thought, hey why not… Monday April 19th, 2010 will forever go down as the day that Mets first baseman Ike Davis made his Major League Debut and sparked the team into an exciting dash for first place [...]

AAA International League: Buffalo 4/8/0, Durham 0/1/1 RA Dickey gave up a hit to the first batter he faced, then retired 27 in a row for a CG 1 hitter.
