Ike Davis Sent To Minor League Camp
First base prospect Ike Davis has been sent to minor-league camp, according to David Lennon of Newsday via Twitter. Ike Davis headed down today. No Opening Day for him. Davis ends a solid spring debut with a .480 batting average, three home runs and ten RBI’s in 25 at-bats. He made quite an impression on the Mets staff, his teammates and of course the fans with his no-nonsense demeanor, heady play, and flashes of his enormous [...]

What If The Mets Had Signed?
Mets fans are not happy right now. There are so many question marks. No one can even agree on who deserves to go north at the end of spring training. As far as uncertainty goes, the starting pitching is the most suspect. The performance of the Mets #2, #3, and #4 starters are not exactly helping raise fan confidence levels. Pelfrey, Perez, and Maine have each been less than stellar. Even Johan Santana has been [...]

Glad Omar Is Unwilling To Rush Prospects To Save Job
This Spring we’ve gotten to look at some of our young prospects and they have impressed fans, the media and the team. The reports that the farm system was dead have been greatly exaggerated it seems. Fernando Martinez, Ike Davis, Jon Niese and Jenrry Mejia are having great springs, so of course there has been plenty of talk about them joining the big team once camp breaks. Coming into Spring Training, the fifth sport in the [...]

Mike Pelfrey Keeps Sinking, Chris Carter Keeps Rising
Mike Pelfrey had another rough outing today as the Washington Nationals beat the Mets 7-5. Pelfrey allowed four home runs giving up two homers each to Ryan Zimmerman and Josh Willingham. Zimmerman hit a booming solo shot in the first and a two-run shot in the fifth, while Willingham had a solo shot in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth. Pelfrey has now allowed 22 hits and 12 earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched, [...]

Spring Training Battles – Odds To Make The Final Cut
As the Mets round the final turn and race down the stretch and toward the finish line, let’s take a look at which players will be standing in the winners circle come April 3rd. Remember, many leads are always lost as the pack tightens up near the finish line, but here’s how I see it now. The Hitters 80:1 – Ike Davis is still a long shot despite the solid spring. 75:1 – Chris Coste will [...]

The Mets Have A Major…Minor League Problem
It’s so easy for us to say the Mets are a dysfunctional franchise. We’ve certainly bared witness to it the last few years. One particular area of criticism that’s often pointed out is the Mets farm system, or lack there-of. The farm system is cultivated mostly by signing amateur free agents and the draft. The draft is basically like the tax code, the better off your team plays the lower the draft pick you receive. [...]

Mets Say Not Interested In Mike Lowell? (Lennon)
Most of you who read this site are well aware of the competition for first base between Daniel Murphy, Ike Davis, Mike Jacobs and Fernando Tatis. Top prospect, Ike Davis is out-hitting and out-producing the competition and is miles ahead of the pack, but his youth and inexperience may have him ticketed for a one-way trip to Buffalo in the next few days. Jacobs and Murphy have done little to grab hold of the everyday [...]

Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?
As my excitement for the new season grows stronger with each passing day, there are still several questions and question marks that occupy my mind. That is to be expected with the season we had to suffer through last year. But 2010 brings new possibilities, though injuries have already begun scaring the fan base. Beltran is out for at least the first month of the season, and nobody really knows when Jose Reyes will be given [...]

Last night while appearing on WFAN, New York Mets Beat Writer Adam Rubin announced that he will be departing the New York Daily News [Hat Tip: Tom Pich of MetsGuide]. He did not specify where he would be going other than that he would still be covering the Mets in some form. Today, Pich communicated with Rubin via email and was told that he will be joining ESPNNewYork.com, which will go online in about two [...]
