The Issue of Realignment…

There has been much talk of realignment over the past couple months.  The ideas have ranged from very few to very radical changes.  I am more progressive than most in my thinking about changes to baseball – but any change in baseball comes under a lot of scrutiny.  The scrutiny is not without cause – baseball has so much history behind it, and some fans are afraid that changes will ruin what they love.  Although [...]

Jon Niese Is Closing In On A Rotation Spot

Joining in the latest new blog craze, we’ll be linking to you to some other great reads each day as you may have already seen on some other Mets sites. Last summer, before his leg betrayed him, Jon Niese provided his manager a glimpse of how good it all could be. Jerry Manuel has retained an image of a young left-handed starting pitcher finding and fighting his way through big league lineups. The Mets manager [...]

Dwight Gooden’s Demons Return

Dwight Gooden was arrested Tuesday morning in NJ and charged with driving under the influence of drugs following an auto accident.  Gooden has previously stated he’d been sober the past 3 and a half years.  The accident occurred at morning rush hour and according to reports Doc’s son was in the car with him at the time. It’s saddens all Mets and Baseball fans alike and we all wish Doc well and hopefully he’ll someday be [...]

25 Things To Make 2010 Enjoyable.

You’ve heard me say it, and I still think it’s true. I think last year humbled me a bit as a Mets fan, and a baseball fan. Now I’m not saying I’m going to sit quiet, not complain, or not get into a daily debate with Bayonne over the value of getting on base as opposed to the sacrifice fly (zing!)  What I mean is, I think for the past 3 years the off-season has [...]

Welcome to Club Carter

Welcome to Club Carter, Mets fans. Where the drinks are free and you get all the Kool-aid you can drink. I am still advocating that Carter makes the team. Whether he is given the starting job or a bench spot is not as clear cut in my mind, but I definitely think he should be on this team. Not many give credence to his spring stats, but his brand of baseball makes it hard to [...]

Gary Matthews Beating Out Pagan For CF Job, So Lets Trade Him?

When the Mets traded reliever Brian Stokes in exchange for outfielder Gary Matthews Jr., the move was met with much skepticism. The original idea was to back up Angel Pagan who would take over in centerfield during Carlos Beltran’s absence, but Omar Minaya said right from the start that Matthews would be in the mix for opening day centerfielder, and a day laster Jerry Manuel added that he’d use Matthews in the leadoff spot. This [...]

Jenrry Mejia Passes Latest Test, Looks Like He’s In

Yesterday was a big day for 20-year old RHP Jenrry Mejia as he continues to move closer toward locking up a spot in the 2010 Mets bullpen. He passed his test of working on back-to-back days with flying colors. The young phenom pitched a perfect inning of relief in the Mets’ 7-6 exhibition victory over the Braves, one day after pitching 1 1/3 shutout innings against the Nationals. During the Braves game yesterday, Jerry Manuel spoke to [...]

Jose Reyes Is Back, Will Be Ready Opening Day

Great news to report Mets fans… The Mets announced on Tuesday morning that their starting shortstop’s thyroid readings have normalized and that he has been cleared to engage in baseball activities. Reyes is expected to resume his Spring Training upon his arrival in camp. His thyroid levels have returned to normal, and he is on his way back to Tradition Field later today and will be in Mets camp and on the field tomorrow. Additionally, [...]

Do Mets Still Have Problems With Positional Depth?

Depth… Depth… Depth… How deep are the Mets? It’s a thought that sometimes falls through the cracks. The Mets received some great news about Reyes’ and his thyroid issues so he should be getting back to baseball very soon once he’s in baseball shape. This situation, although disaster was averted, opened the door to many questions about what would happen if guys like Reyes, Wright, and even Johan were injured for an undetermined period. Do we have the protection and [...]

Do I Believe In Comebacks? It’s Getting Harder…

We now return you to ‘As The World Turns‘… That should be what each return from a commercial on SNY and WPIX says this exhibition season… I am becoming more concerned as the Mets continue to have more questions than answers each day spring training continues. What drama… We should be getting closer to making cuts. Instead the questions are becoming more pronounced each day. At first base, if Daniel Murphy is starting, he’d better abandoned that more upright [...]
