Mets Winter League Update – Stoner, Carter, Moviel
Tobi Stoner is playing in the Dominican Republic for Leonis Del Escogido. He has started off strongly, going 3-1 with a 1.86 ERA and a .93 WHIP. In 5 starts and 29 IP he has given up 20 hits, walked 7 and struck out 21. It’s good to see Tobi doing so well. Tobi had pitched 9 innings for the Mets as a September call up. He will play next year as a 25 year [...]

Jeff Francoeur Is Indeed A Keeper
As you may have heard, Bart Hubbuch of the NY Post reported that rightfielder Jeff Francoeur will return to the Mets and speculated that Minaya may even sign him to an extension, something that Minaya previously alluded to last month. You can imagine the uproar all over the Mets blogosphere as they react to such devastating news. Luckily, the Mets don’t concern themselves with such mindless mutterings, and instead did exactly what they needed to do. The [...]

Carl Schaus Promoted To Buffalo Bisons
AT&T has debuted a new national television advertisement this week for their 3G Network that features the Mets AAA affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons. The 30-second spot is already airing nationwide. The new commercial is about a fictional player named Carl Schaus who has just been promoted to the Buffalo Bisons and is trying to race to the ballpark in time for his first road game. Schaus uses his AT&T phone to get faster directions for his taxi [...]

Mets Reportedly Interested In Ben Sheets
Corine Gatti of AHN has some new information about former Brewers ace, Ben Sheets. Sheets’ agent Casey Close said that his client is returning. “We have already heard from a number of teams inquiring about Ben’s health and availability for 2010,” Close told ESPN.com Friday. “I will tell you that he has a very good chance to be one of the most impactful free agents, without question.” The New York Yankees, New York Mets and Los [...]

Mets Addressing Bullpen Needs, But Not How You Think
With numerous holes to fill, the Mets have decided to address their bullpen first. However, they’re not talking about adding another lefty to assist Perpetual Pedro Feliciano or a set-up man for Francisco Rodriguez. Instead, the issues with the bullpen being addressed are where each bullpen will be located at Citi Field in 2010. In his blog for the Star-Ledger today, Brian Costa reported that the bullpens at Citi Field are being restructured so that [...]

Wally Backman To Manage Brooklyn Cyclones
It looks like Wally Backman will indeed be managing the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2010. It had already been reported three weeks ago by Adam Rubin, that Backman would be managing one of the Single-A teams for the Mets, but which one had not yet been determined. Yesterday, Dora Licastri, long time friend of MMO, and Port St. Lucie native, reported on her Facebook Mets Rumor Mill that Wally Backman would manage the Brooklyn Cyclones and Edgar Alfonzo would [...]

Everybody Loves Winter Season
Everybody loves the winter baseball season. It’s the time when we all become experts. We all get to spend X amount of imaginary dollars, and if some of our moves happen, we get to call into AM radio and say “I said all along the Mets should get _____.” (By the way if they sign Nick Johnson, I’m re-posting my blog about that!) It’s never too early to start writing your Christmas Wish List right? [...]

Could Mets Swing Castillo For Casey Blake?
Remember Jim Bowden? The former Nationals and Reds GM had this to say on his Twitter account: Dodgers talking with Braves re: Vazquez and Mets re: Castillo according to sources. Last year it would have been easy to assume that the Dodgers were probably discussing a swap for Juan Pierre (bad contract for bad contract), but that was back when Castillo was at rock bottom in terms of value. Could the Mets be looking at [...]

The Recession, Unemployment And Swine Flu: Maybe We Can Blame That On Omar And Castillo Also
There once was a ballplayer. He ended the regular season without getting a hit in the final 9 games of the year. In spite of this, his team made it to the World Series. His hitting woes continued in the Fall Classic when he went hitless in every game, going 0-21, one of the worst Series performances ever. As a result, his team lost in 7 games. Perhaps one simple base hit would have garnered [...]

No Gold Glove For Wright; Guess He Didn’t Hit Well Enough
Earlier today, my esteemed colleague, Mr. HoJo’s Mojo wrote about this year’s National League Gold Glove recipients. As he reported, no Mets players had their gloves touched by King Midas. That means the picture to the left will not be repeated at Citi Field next season. Carlos Beltran was not expected to win the Gold Glove because he missed half of the 2009 season. But what about David Wright? Didn’t he hit well enough to [...]

Like It Or Not, Castillo Is As Good As Gone
Deal with it Mets fans. They say where there’s smoke there’s fire, and right now there is an inferno raging where Luis Castillo is concerned. Debating whether Luis Castillo should stay or go has been a fun and interesting exercise for Mets fans lately, but the fact of the matter is we have no say in determining Castillo’s home field next season. Those who do have a say have made it perfectly clear by their [...]
