I Like Dotel, But We Have Bigger Fish To Fry

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that reliever Octavio Dotel would like to play for the Mets (or the Yankees) again. Hmm… Why does it seem like every pending free agent past his prime or unemployed player wants to play for the Mets? Anyway, the 35-year-old reliever says that the Mets are his first choice, and that’s all fine and dandy, but Dotel probably won’t be the Mets first choice. The White Sox have told Octavio Dotel that he’s [...]

Castillo’s Season Ranks Among Mets Best At 2B

While we debate the pros and cons of whether or not Luis Castillo should be traded in the off season, let me add this for your consideration. I decided to see where Luis Castillo’s season ranks among the best all around seasons by a Mets second baseman. To begin, Edgardo Alfonso not only delivered the best season ever for a Mets second baseman in 2000, but I would even argue that he also put up [...]

The Uncertain State Of The Mets – Part 1

With the 2009 season coming to an end, lets begin to chart out where the Mets are and where they might be heading. The following is a list of all the Mets salary commitments for the 2010 season. I have included their actual salary commitments, and even tried my hand at projecting salary commitments for players heading into arbitration and those due raises. Asterisk denotes estimated salary figure. Catchers Omir Santos – $400K Josh Thole – $450K No arbitration [...]

Bengie Molina Would Be A Nice Short Term Fix

Way too much is being made of comments from Jerry Manuel that sounded like Omir Santos will be the starting catcher next season. I must have come across a dozen stories that ran with that notion today, but let’s not read too much into what Manuel is saying regarding the catching situation. First, Manuel is the manager and for now Omir Santos is one of his catchers – what do you think he’s going to [...]

First Ever MMO Awards Ballot!

I joined this great team during the early summer months, you know, when we foolishly expected the Mets to make some great September run because “everybody would be back.” I’ve had a great time, and I really cannot wait until next season! To wrap up the year, I decided to create a yearly feature for this website. It’s the MMO Awards. The winners will be voted solely by you, our readers.  To give you some background [...]

Please Shut Jose Reyes Down Already

Every athlete, professional, amateur, or the weekend warrior, should have the final say on how to deal with a debilitating injury.  After all options are presented and digested, they steadfastly must have the final say.    Baseball always points the doubters to the case of J.R. Richard, the former Astros pitcher who suffered a career ending stroke years ago when Houston management was suspicious he was jaking it.  He showed them didn’t he?   With that said, one final [...]

Is Omar Really Safe?

Is Omar Minaya really as safe as the Mets are wanting the public to believe? Ever since the Tony B. / Adam Rubin fiasco, we haven’t heard much from Omar Minaya except to announce a few player moves and even at those times, Mets PR VP Jay Horwitz was close by to prevent any further Minaya meltdowns. On two occasions, Horwitz even cut the press conference short when reporters began delving into unchartered waters. I [...]

MLB Teams Eye Cuban Pitching Phenom

Aroldis Chapman, the Cuban defector considered to be one of the top pitching prospects in the world, petitioned Major League Baseball for free-agency status recently and is likely only weeks from becoming a free agent, according to his agent. A report on ESPN suggesters that the New York Yankees have already shown interest in the lefty and will most likely be one of the top suitors. Chapman’s fastball has been clocked at 102 mph when he [...]

Bobby Cox to Retire In 2010 As Braves Manager

The Atlanta Braves have announced that longtime manager Bobby Cox will return for the 2010 season and then retire from managing. Cox will then move to a consulting job for the team for five years afterward. Cox will retire from the Braves as one of the most accomplished managers in baseball history. Cox managed the Braves from 1978 to 1981, and then returned to the Braves bench in 1990. The Braves proceeded to win every [...]

Mets Swept Away; Braves Sink Pelf 5-2

It was more of the same at Citi Field last night, in a season that just can’t get end fast enough for the Mets at this point. With Mike Pelfrey on the mound, the Mets put themselves in a huge hole. They tried to climb out, but could never mount an extended rally and lost 5-2 in the final game of the series. The Braves struck for three in the second, with the help of [...]
