The Sandman Cometh
In the early innings of tonight’s Mets telecast, Gary Cohen asked the viewers who they thought was the injured player closest to making his way back from the disabled list. Although Jose Reyes has been doing some light running and is very close to playing in rehab games, he was not the answer. Imagine my surprise when the answer was revealed to be the Sandman, Billy Wagner! So I did a little research to see [...]

Feeling Down? Go To The Cyclones!
Here’s an understatement: It has been a rough season for Mets fans. We all need some activities to boost optimism in a time like this and one of the best solutions is minor league baseball. On one side, its great because you are down about the economy, its a lot cheaper than major league baseball. On the other side, if you are depressed about the New York Mets its great because you get to see [...]

Cardinals Get Their Man – Acquire Matt Holliday
ESPN is reporting that the Oakland A’s and St. Louis Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen. The A’s are also including $1.5 million cash in the deal. Wallace is considered an elite propspect and ranked #20 overall by Baseball America in their recent July rankings. (Or about 100 spots ahead of F-Mart!) Holliday, 29, [...]

MetsWrighter’s Week In Review
I may be a few days late and many dollars short, but I’d finally like to weigh in on all that has transpired with our Mets this past week, on and mostly off the field. First of all, going back to the Halladay deal. Whether it was or wasn’t true, I am glad the Mets did not make the trade. Now before you all start screaming at me, hear me out. I am not saying I wouldn’t [...]

Reyes Getting Better, Maine Getting Worse
Today brings with it some assorted good and bad news about injured players. SS Jose Reyes ran the bases for the first time since his leg injury (tendinitis), and took fielding and throwing practice. Reyes ran from first to third, and is likely to run full-speed on Saturday. If his Saturday outing goes well, he could begin a rehab assignment soon. John Maine’s (shoulder) news was not as good. Mets fans will hold their breath [...]

Brad Holt Too Valuable To Be Traded
Starting pitcher, Brad Holt continues to shoot up the top prospects lists. The 2008 supplemental first round draft pick, has impressed scouts with his plus fastball and his other pitches continue to improve. I asked Adam Rubin of the Daily News about him on Tuesday, and he now has him ranked among the top three prospects in the Mets organization. Last week, Baseball America released their mid season prospect rankings and Brad Holt was the [...]
